Are you Krossan? Or is Krossan you?
I want to put this out there because I’ve noticed some users mistakenly tagging my art as belonging to Krossan. I’d like to kindly remind everyone to check who the original poster is before tagging. I never want to take credit for something that isn’t mine, and the designs I draw aren’t my own.
I try to emphasize whenever I can that her art and her AU mean a lot to me. They’ve been a huge inspiration and helped me through some particularly tough months. I love everything about them. That said, I don’t want my art to be perceived as a cheap copy of Krossan’s. My fanart is meant as an homage to her style. I study her work the way a painter might study a Renaissance master.
If you scroll through my blog or have been following me for a while, you’ll see that I experiment a lot: lineart thickness, cell shading, different brushes, etc. It has changed over time and continues to do so: professionally, I am an environment concept artist and characters tend to be limited only to my personal work. I may have chosen a different path eventually, but I hold a Bachelor’s in animation and my old sketchbooks are full of Disney and Don Bluth studies. Drawing like this is like putting on a comfortable pair of slippers after a long day of work. And some aspects of her style just clicked for me, like: “Why didn’t I think of using a brush like this for lighting before?!” And honestly, her versions of Dan, Jazz, and Danny, Dani are just how they look in my head now. Drawing them differently feels… wrong. These are the characters I love.
Of course I’ll keep experimenting and adding my own twist, my ideas, including the bit of humor I often like to include in my pieces. I will keep learning and growing. And if, at any point, Krossan reaches out and asks me to stop, I will do so immediately - I respect her deeply. My only hope is that it brings her even a tiny bit of happiness to know that someone loves her art this much, especially considering how unfairly her work has been targeted in the past.
Please remember: I am not her, I never have been and never will be. I never trace; I only use references and I’m just observant. My art is simply a tribute. I'm standing on the shoulders of giants.
Real talk how much money for a dark danny thirst Pic from you. I can't take it anymore I will throw money at you.
Looks to the right, looks to the left Dm.
is Jazz’s hair an indication of her being liminal?
I think the sequence that I will post in ~2 weeks will explain everything nicely! :) in the meantime, please remember that everything I do i based on Krossan’s AU, so it is best to refer to her posts for an explanation
by chance youll release like a full comic or smth? Like chapter by chance :0??
Full comic…? I’m not sure if I understand. I am not working on any comics currently (I have two longer sequences in progress though). Doing short comics like the one with Dan referenced from Hades is super fun, but it also takes more time than other fanart so I don’t draw them too often :)
