What if Dr. McCormick's sunglasses use a type of lense he invented that functions as prescription glasses and doesn't give his vision any sort of tint, but still looks like sunglasses to everyone else? Also it protects his eyes when there's brightness like transition lenses.
Idk if anything like this is even remotely possible IRL, but it's the future and he's an inventor. Also I've been wearing transition lenses for years and I think it'd be awesome if these things looked like cool sunglasses too
Hmm, I think you’re referring to like the type of coatings that give an illusion of a polarizad lens?? Sort of like those cars that from the outside look completely tinted, but inside, they aren’t as dark.
In my personal headcanon prescription, he doesn’t have anything that requires him to wear glasses.
^this is a nothing burger of a prescription 🙍♀️🙍♀️ he basically has 20/20 vision (deadass if I had a patient come in for an eye exam, and they had this prescription, I would tell them to not bother spending on glasses since there won’t be much of a difference). So I don’t think he’ll personally use prescription glasses with this, BUT!!! He could definitely use a new type of advanced transition lens without it!!!! [if you headcanon Dr. McCormick having a higher prescription than the one I gave him, and he has a diagnosed presbyopia— maybe a progressive lens with transitions will work. Or, if you want him to forever have sunglasses on, progressive glasses with polarized lenses is the way to go! People over the age of 45 tend to get diagnosed with presbyopia :,)]
Transition lenses (for those who don’t know, it’s when lenses darken when you’re in the sunlight since they are UV reactive, and when you go back inside they turn back to clear) have now gotten different colors and reactors these days (like sapphire color or amethyst) [don’t confuse polarize and transition with tint. Tint doesn’t have UV protection. Tint will not protect you from the sun unless the lenses are added a UV protective coating]. Most opticals will offer you a basic transition coating, but I know there are some who offer something like an XTRActive transition, which is quicker to react and more darker in polarization. So transitions looking as dark as sunglasses are a real thing at the moment. The tint/darkness illusion will probably have to be some other advancement tho 😼☝️ Dr. McCormick could definitely help invent something like that tho! hehe
