Tossing the “Inverted Elysians cannot pass their powers to non-inverted Elysians and vice versa” thing out the window... Elise loses a fight against Cecil and, in her final minutes, passes on her powers to Lynx.
I can just imagine Lynx going from crying to absolutely fucking pissed the instant he sees Cecil.
Edit: ... I just realized the implications of giving the host of the Spirit Dragon the knowledge and power required to use overdrive... While said host isn’t the most emotionally stable from watching the closest thing he had to a parent in the last few hundred years die right in front of him.
“Lynx, have you ever wondered what happened to the Dawnbreaker and Duskbreaker,” Elise asked the green Elysian.
“You mean the blades from legend? Weren’t they wiped out with the Aurorans?”
“No.“ Elise paused for a few beats. “Marigold tasked me with camouflaging them, to keep them away from Phantom.” She held out her hand, a small grin appearing on her face. “Do you still have my sword?”
Pulling the weapon off of his back, Lynx placed the handle into her palm, before she gripped onto it. She then raised it skyward, the blade splitting to reveal a beam of energy. However, it was more powerful than normal. The gaps in the weapon began to glow as the guard shone brightly.
“Adeline, awaken,” Elise called out dramatically. On cue, the ELYS-MK I flashed white for a moment before it morphed into a more traditional sword, retaining it’s grayish green and purple color palette. The guard was made up of two wings, one of an angel, and one of a dragon. She then pointed it at Lynx, her grin showing more clearly.
“You mean, all this time, I’ve had the Dawnbreaker?”
“Yep, I just needed to make sure you were the right guy for the job of taking out Phantom for good.” She flipped the Dawnbreaker so she was holding it backhand, before tossing it to Lynx. “Everything I’ve had you do, every bit of hell I put you through, was to prepare you. ... Except for my attitude, though. I just do it because it amuses me.”
“Typical.” The new wielder of the Dawnbreaker rolled his eyes, though he couldn’t hide his own grin. Though his expression contorted into a frown as he stared into the blade of his weapon’s new form. “But, what about the part about needing Meli’s powers to be able to use Adeline’s full power?” Elise just laughed for a moment at the question.
“Part of me needing to camouflage the Space-time Weapons was also hiding the mark of Meli’s host. But now that the Dawnbreaker has been reawakened...” She went around behind Lynx, pulling up the back of his shirt and jacket to reveal the symbol of the half-dragon bloodline. “Boom. Lynx Atri, you’ve inherited the power of the Kotori family.” He turned to try and look at the mark, though his vision was blocked by his clothing and inability to turn his head completely around, before he let out a sigh.
“I’ll look at it in a mirror when I get the chance.” Elise let go of his shirt and jacket, letting the garments fall back to their natural positions. “Think I’ll end up being able to get wings and horns like Emily? Or maybe I’ll be able to...”
... ‘Telling him this early was probably a mistake,’ Emily thought to herself as she just began walking off, with her trainee trailing behind her as he listed off all the possible things he could do now that he had the powers of the Spirit Dragon.
I finally drew Lynx again. Overall, I think the small changes to his design when compared to the original classroom doodle way back in the day are improvements.
I still remember when I struggled to draw two tails and depict them as fluffy, and also when Elysians only had “digital beings brought to the physical world” for me to go off of.
I came up with a new ability for the Elysians, as well as a bit of lore behind it. It pretty much triggers when their bodies take in too much energy, though how much energy that is can vary greatly. Though some learn to pull from their own pools of energy to fuel it, which can have devastating consequences if they do it for too long.
Also, my first Elysian character, Lynx, has a slightly different design. I got rid of the markings on the sleeves as those were making him much more of a hassle to draw. And also, my attempt at drawing a younger Lynx from a while back and failing miserably (I could not art that day, in case it wasn’t obvious). Also, he won’t be capable of using Overdrive for a good while yet, I just thought I’d use him as an example.
I might post a bit of a lore / story thing that pretty much details the perspective of one of the people working on the Elysian experiment. But no promises as my brain is stupid 99% of the time these days.
Whether or not I’ll retcon this, including Young Lynx’s design, this is up in the air atm.
Edit 1: The Elysians that were created as a direct result of the Elysian experiment are more capable of harnessing it than their descendants as they have less tolerance to massive amounts of energy, which forces an Overdrive. Future generations adapted to the massive amounts of energy present in the material world, and thus being able to activate Overdrive is a lot rarer for them.
Though there is another way to gain access to Overdrive, corrupted energy. Initially, it will force Elysians into a state of shock as the energy that many were made to combat is now being absorbed into the body. This will automatically force an Overdrive of a more sinister variety. This is most commonly done by absorbing power from Spirit Stones that were used as prisons for shades, before the Aurorans knew how to properly dispose of them. Though others borrow energy from the source of the shades after pretty much selling their souls to it in exchange for the easy way to that power.
The Elysians that sold their souls to the embodiment of negativity were branded as traitors by the dark purple markings that appeared on their faces and their glowing purple pupils. Those same Elysians formed a new clan: The Oblivion Clan, and are a common enemy of all the other clans, as they are aiding the thing that their kind and their Auroran creators had been attempting to destroy for countless millennia.
