Zephael & Nahavo - Love and Magic

Yet more Elysian gods from dragon mythology straight from the egroF oreH. Next up, we have the goddesses Zephael and Nahavo.

Zephael is the ancient dragon goddess of Love and Attraction, who held dominion over Gravity. One of the most powerful and enticing of the Elysians, she prided herself on beauty, having an innate understanding of what it was the mortals of Earth found so attractive and leveraging it to her own ends.

While she rarely engaged in combat or used her power offensively, with dominion over Gravity, there was little Zephael could not influence should she so desire.

When The Enemy descended in a failed invasion of Earth, she and Zohaser were the greatest thorns in their side when the Elysians allied themselves with the dragons, the event which saw their elevation to godhood in the dragons' eyes.

Before the Elysians, it is said there was no magic, and without the Elysians, it is said there would be no Earth.

There is an ancient legend of a dragon who fell in love with the goddess and sought to be with her always. The dragon tried multiple times to court the goddess' attention, before finally gaining her affection. She found in that mortal one who saw her for what she was beyond the front she put up before the world.

It is said that in an attempt to prolong their love, Zephael shared the secrets of longevity with the dragon, and its natural lifespan increased from two centuries to two millennia. But even she could not prolong their life indefinitely. Eventually, the dragon passed, and Zephael would continue on, but through that dragon, longevity was bestowed upon the entire race, and their long-lived nature now is due to this fleeting romance between a mortal and a god.

Nahavo is the ancient dragon goddess of Magic and Science, who held dominion over Energy. It is said that close to the arrival of the gods in our world, when magic was given to the dragons, it was Nahavo who taught them how to use it.

A supremely intelligent entity, Nahavo was revered as The Great Teacher, bestowing upon the dragons gifts of philosophy, art, magic, technology, and knowledge of countless skills. It is through these gifts, it is said, that dragon society advanced in a couple centuries more than it had in 10,000 years prior.

A hands-off deity, Nahavo rarely interacted with the dragons after this initial era, having been among the first to return to Elysium and only check on the world she helped create on certain occasions. It is said that her visits marked the beginning and end of eras of dragon civilization, and her final return to Elysium when her kind left the Earth behind marked the beginning of the Age of Man.

It is believed by some that Nahavo was not aligned solely with the dragons, and shared her gifts with mankind as well, and may have been responsible for their development into the planet's second intelligent species.

For this reason, there are some dragons who view her in less positive terms, but there are just as many who blame the mythical figure of the Great Wizard Aleron, the first human mage, for those same advancements.

Aurora Lore: Tail-Splitting

Most Elysians are born with a single tail that splits into two at some point during puberty. The tail is one of the ways an Elysian is capable of devouring atmospheric aether, same as anywhere where their soul color glows. However, in the last few thousand years, there has been an uptick of Elysians that remain to only have one tail, even as they become elders. It's widely believed that this is due to a lack of aether in the atmosphere throughout their early life, causing their bodies to adapt to the thinner amounts.

While these Elysians aren't capable of using as powerful magic as their twin-tailed counterparts, they do have much greater long-term stamina due to their body burning less aether. The places single-tailed Elysians are most common are, as one might expect, worlds that have a low density of atmospheric aether. Though some are known to sprout up in places with a dense Elysian population and low to average amounts of aether, likely due to the others around them that devour the majority of it. Thus their bodies adapt to the thinner amounts as they age, and their tail never splits.

The splitting of a tail itself normally devours all the aether in the atmosphere around the Elysian, effectively supercharging them, as well as finally giving them full access to and control over their bound weapon, whatever that may be. As well, the massive intake causes, however brief it may be, a great increase in their physical and magical abilities, and allows the wounds and exhaustion they've sustained to heal almost instantly. These factors make it incredibly beneficial during a battle, though it's also rare to happen during one, as if the Elysian's opponent has any amount of magical ability, they'll be pulling in most of the aether in the immediate atmosphere already.
