C O N T E N T S: KEY TOPICS Could it be that our technology, or at least, the way in which we are technological, threatens us with early self-destruction?(More…) The Boards of LYRASIS and DuraSpace, two leading member-based non-profit organizations serving libraries, archives, museums, as well as the broader scholarly, cultural heritage and technology communities, have unanimously approved an…
From a single library, to millions of digital books--under the leadership of Robert Miller, we thrived.
Under Robert’s direction, the Internet Archive Digital Libraries Group has digitized, and provided free public access to over 2.5 million books from over 1300 contributing libraries. We have digitization centers on 5 continents, at 36 sites, where we digitize 1000 books every day. Our digital library is not just books! We have expanded the media types available in our collections to include: microfilm and fiche, LPs and CDs, and both 8mm and 16mm film.
It’s the end of an era as Robert Miller joins Lyrasis as CEO this June, where he is sure to lead the organization to great success. Our team will carry on, and will mark the 10th anniversary of our first digitization center this fall; Gerstein Library, University of Toronto. We will continue to provide a full range of affordable, high quality digitization services, with a goal of reaching smaller and more diverse institutions with our Table Top Scribe program. Robert’s skills and experience are undoubtedly a great acquisition for Lyrasis, just as the legacy he leaves behind at the Internet Archive. He has created the structure and values needed for our team to further our mission to provide ‘Universal Access to All Knowledge’ through the digitization and free distribution of material in the public domain.
Our library partners and long-held relationships are the true strength of the Digital Libraries Group and we are confident that this will continue to be the case. We wish Robert Miller the best in his future endeavors, and look forward to working closely with the library community to build a digital library for the future!
