July 2021 | One final set from the Lytton wildfire. All my previous wildfire work was with the Ontario Fire Rangers and those fires are (usually) all very remote, and almost exclusively fought during daylight. Having relatively close access to this one was pretty amazing. Watching individual trees catch and burn like candles, hotspots flare and then go dark, and all the while the wind was howling up the Fraser Canyon. July 2021 | Lots of helicopter water bombers over Lytton yesterday. With access to just about anywhere in and around Lytton sealed off, and with fire crews on the ground in the hills above and the town below. July 2021 | Today was a lot. My first West Coast mountain wildfire did not mess around come the afternoon. Thousands of feet of smoke turning into a pyro-cumulonimbus cloud by late afternoon. The tiny spec of the spotter helicopter really gives it some scale.
