Tess ran up to Shay, grinning as Root trailed behind her. “Mommy! Look what Mama let me do at the park!”
Root shook her head and held up her hands. “I couldn’t say no. But you can handle bath time tonight.” She smirked at her wife, knowing there would be a serious discussion over who would be scraping all of the paint off of their daughter. For now, Root was just happy to revel in the comfort of her little family.
Shay blinked at the sight of her daughter at decked out in Wonder Woman face paint. She smiled for her daughter, but raised an eyebrow at her wife with a look that promised a discussion later. She bent down to look Tess over, smiling softly at her as she did. “Wonder Woman huh? Good choice angel. She’s one of Mommy’s favorites too. Y’know why? Well, Wonder Woman is a princess. Of a far far away land. And because of where she lived, she had superpowers. There were some bad things happening here and Wonder Woman decided to come help us out cause she knew we needed help and she could give it. Now, you’ll find Tess, that there are a lot of people in the world with superpowers that just…refuse to help people. Wonder Woman could have too, she wasn’t from here, she wasn’t in trouble cause of her superpowers. But she still came here and helped us beat the bad guys. Because she could. Because it was the right thing to do.” Shay beamed at Tess and leaned in to press a kiss to her forehead. “Don’t worry about any bad guys of course, your mommies are their own type of superheroes and we got this.” One was a living interface for a god-like supercomputer, the other could create and manipulate emotions and worked for a super-building, it was a close enough analogy. “But remember, like Wonder Woman, when you can, help other people. It’s the right thing to do.”
Shay straightened and beamed at her daughter. “Now what do you say we go make some cookies? I’ve even got Wonder Woman cookie cutters to go with your new do. What do you say?” As Tess whooped and ran for the kitchen, Shay glanced up at her wife bemusedly. “Is the paint at least non-toxic face paint? Cause I don’t think paint thinner would be a good option for her face, it’s not the best for ones complexion.”
