it’s always interesting, seeing those who think they’re stronger than the rest. they all end up cowering before him sooner or later -- well, those that he didn’t kill right away. but no, that’s not his goal here -- he actually can use this one. there’s potential here. that doesn’t mean, of course, he has any respect for demons. “aw, look at the boy trying to play king.”

it is not the first time that he has sought out his true vessel, in this time or in times passed. but standing before the mortal body designed to hold his power perfectly never ceases to put the archangel in a state of awe. something father had created, something weaker in all respects and yet capable of so much, something that could easily tear apart at the seams --- to know the boy can withstand everything the angel exists to be is something the angel is always amazed to see firsthand. but this is no time for admiration; there are plans to unfold, and he can only hold the body he has borrowed for so long. “i did not come to argue, dean. i wish only for you to hear my side. i think you can do that civilly, yes?”

castiel has his uses, which is not something michael can say for the general majority of the angels. most are merely soldiers under his command, doing as he orders in a fight to cleanse the world from the parasites that humans have become. but castiel -- michael doesn’t favor him, not in so many words. but when you torture someone into submission, to the point where they break and becomes yours ... it’s like having a guard dog more afraid of what he could do to it than the actual dangers it’s tasked with handling. and that makes castiel perfect for the job.

he’s only explained part of the plan to the other, and only after he’d locked castiel down to prevent him from leaving and ruining everything. the humans know who his brother is -- rumors have certainly circulated about what he’s molded castiel into doing. it’s likely that the humans who find him will desire his death -- but more likely that they’ll want castiel alive to attempt to pry information from him, which michael intends to use to his advantage. all castiel needs to do is sit pretty and wait for his position to reach the human settlements.

the fear in his brother’s voice has him halt, but only just. he turns, arches a brow at castiel -- it’s pathetic, seeing the other so clearly terrified, even if the honest fear will help the humans believe this is genuine. nothing the humans could do rivals what michael will do if castiel fails him, however, -- something he’s sure reads clearly on his face. the archangel takes a step towards where he’s imprisoned the other. “i must’ve misheard you, because it almost sounded as if you didn’t want to do this.” which makes perfect sense, but that’s hardly the point. not doing it isn’t an option he’s giving. “you’re going to act the rejected prey that you are, or else when i retrieve you -- if i retrieve you -- you’ll wish i never had.”

he doesn’t spare a glance towards the newcomer -- few are with his attention at a good moment, and less so when he’s been agitated. “here to surrender?”

the boy before him is... curious. few nephilim have been granted permission to continue existing, and michael supposes the fact it’s an archangel’s child that makes the difference here. not that he would care less about any others; they are all family in the end. but the rules have said before to cut the problem flower off before it infects the whole tree. so here, standing before his nephew, is something that’s, truly, never happened before. “--- it’s jack, right? it’s been a long time since i’ve stood in front of new grace.”

a proper older brother sigh escapes his lips, tinted with exasperation but mostly the sort of tone only given out of watching a loved one make bad decisions. he loves lucifer, really does, and knows that father does too, but sometimes it feels like his brother refuses to acknowledge anything but the negative. “oh, can’t you ever behave?”

michael stares at his hand in a mixture of confusion and frustration. upon finding that his other-world brother, castiel, had followed him through the rift that the prophet had conjured, the archangel had gone to dispose of the other angel. he couldn’t have him following michael around, trying to stop him. castiel had already been a serious annoyance in michael’s home world.

but nothing had happened. not even a spark of power filtered through his veins, dripped from his finger tips. and it doesn’t make sense because he’s the oldest, he commands heaven, he has the most power of all of them so why is it gone -- flexes his fingers to try and call forth anything, any little flicker of holy destruction. searches deep inside himself to find that core, to latch on to his grace and pull it forward but...

still, nothing. he whirls on the other angel, fury directed at him. “explain.”
