this is an important announcement regarding the group: we’ve decided to hit the reset button and start fresh.
to be clear: this isn’t because the group is dying—it’s far from it—but more so because we want to redefine what this space is and what it can be.
our vision moving forward is to market mayhem as a place not just for writing threads and paras, but as a hub for creative writing in its many forms. we want to lean more into the kinds of things we’ve experimented with, like events framed as writing exercises or group collaborations. ideas like round-robin storytelling, open thread starters, and other ways to spark creativity will be encouraged. participation in these will always be optional, but we hope to inspire more collective growth and engagement.
we also wanted to address something that’s come up over time: we’ve learned that “mayhempro” is the name of another group that’s an e-fed exclusively discord-based. while this was completely unintentional, we still occasionally get inquiries about being affiliated with them, which we’re not. with the reset, we’re undergoing a name change to further distinguish our group and its unique identity.
with this reset, it’s important to note that not everyone here will necessarily be part of the next version of mayhem (rather, collision). this isn’t personal—it’s about creating a space that allows the group to thrive creatively. we’ve been lenient in the past with things like rolehogging and other issues, but moving forward, we want to ensure the environment is one where everyone can truly flourish.
for the reset, we’ll be exercising the right to kindly decline those we feel might not be the right fit for this vision. this is not to exclude anyone out of malice, but to foster a group of writers who share a mutual desire to grow and contribute to the energy we’re building.
we want to emphasize that this reset is not about erasing or hiding what mayhem has been or us behind it—it’s a chance to build on everything we’ve created together. the history of this group and the connections made here will always be a part of its foundation, even as we move forward. this is simply an opportunity to refine our vision and ensure the group evolves in a way that serves our shared goals and creativity.
we know this might feel like a big change, and we understand if it’s not something everyone aligns with. however, we’re excited for this fresh start and the possibilities ahead. thank you for understanding, and for being a part of this journey with us.
we’ll be holding roles for a couple of days over at @collisionhq. please note that being held does not guarantee acceptance into the new group. consider this an opportunity for a fresh start, if that’s something you’d like. for returning members, you’ll only need to sign up with your url, alias, and a pinned post to be considered.
