Thinking that Lucy probably wanted to be a mother and a family so bad, as she was so fond of Georgette she literally cried when the baby once pressed her cheeks to hers, later confessing that when Georgette was sent away she was sorry because she loved the child. Also in the dryad chapter when lucy was again resigning herself to a life of utter independence because she felt a 'disagreeable sensation' (jealousy) regarding M.Paul's goddaughter, she later asked: is there nothing more for me in life—no true home—nothing to be dearer to me than myself?
