Opinion on the noble BAR?
The M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (chambered in .30-06 Springfield)? It sure is the LMG of all time. Low capacity and heavy weight. Seems better as a battle rifle than an LMG.
I like its notoriety as the weapon of choice for Bonnie and Clyde though, but even they reportedly used a cut-down version.
