Full fledged gacha finally came to the PC and console audiences with the release of Genshin Impact today. Already 10 million registered users, and there's too many people downloading for the download to progress beyond a snail's pace. Really sad, depressed honestly, about whole new audiences being exposed to these mechanics for the first time completely blind, and what this could mean for the future of games.
Yeah. Honestly, I’m super exhausted lobbying for the inclusion of gaming elements into the definition of gambling - I’ve been doing it constantly and relentlessly for 7 years and when the Australian government flat out rejected the amendment a few years ago I just........... UGH. It’s so disheartening. Especially when I see and hear about the damage the elements do to people. Money speaks louder than I ever can, and there are some BIG players lobbying for gambling elements in games to not be included in the definition of gambling.
Also, with COVID-19 and the economy in recession, reforming the definition of ‘gambling’ is just not going to happen in the next few years because the governments will be focusing on trying to LOOSEN regs to “”stimulate employment”” or whatever they’ll tell themselves that economic deregulation will cause
