Full fledged gacha finally came to the PC and console audiences with the release of Genshin Impact today. Already 10 million registered users, and there's too many people downloading for the download to progress beyond a snail's pace. Really sad, depressed honestly, about whole new audiences being exposed to these mechanics for the first time completely blind, and what this could mean for the future of games.

Yeah. Honestly, I’m super exhausted lobbying for the inclusion of gaming elements into the definition of gambling - I’ve been doing it constantly and relentlessly for 7 years and when the Australian government flat out rejected the amendment a few years ago I just........... UGH. It’s so disheartening. Especially when I see and hear about the damage the elements do to people. Money speaks louder than I ever can, and there are some BIG players lobbying for gambling elements in games to not be included in the definition of gambling. 

Also, with COVID-19 and the economy in recession, reforming the definition of ‘gambling’ is just not going to happen in the next few years because the governments will be focusing on trying to LOOSEN regs to “”stimulate employment”” or whatever they’ll tell themselves that economic deregulation will cause

I'll be looking into getting a trainer or behaviour specialist to try and figure this out with us. Its likely going to be difficult to get someone to physically help us but hopefully at least I can get some clue as to what training I can do with him...

God, my friends were asking about queer authors/books focusing on queer characters and in the process of recommending you amongst others, I found your short essay on why you won't write sad endings for queer characters. I'm a simple person, I got very emotional reading it again. :') I've basically carried that line of thought with me ever since Lexa in The 100, no more. I think this might be a part of why I've had such respect for you for so long.

And like… now that my ADHD brain actually read the full comment mentioning gacha games. I also had a massive problem with them. Easily accessible mobile games, hyperfocus, impulsiveness… it’s not a good combination. I wasted an embarrassing amount of money that I still can’t tell anyone about. So like yeah if gambling in videogames is a professional focus of yours I know I personally would appreciate some more light shed there. Alright sorry, done now.

So many people have mentioned gatcha games recently! I personally haven’t read any research on them (and I’m only vaguely familiar with them), but I’ve met a professor from NSW and another from Melbourne who are doing some research on gambling in games who I’ll contact. Perhaps they are aware of some research available in English I could read over, or know people researching this stuff if they aren’t.  

The fact like like a dozen people have told me in the last six months they have a problem with them really warrants a closer look at them tbh.

I am SO INVESTED in this universe’s multi couple parent setup, the potential for poly relationships, etc. It’s so interesting. And like, if the couples aren’t living in the same house, what do they do? Basically share the child?

The reason I actually wrote A Story of Creation was because I was like, “So my headcanon about elves is that sexual preference isn’t stigmatised, and that being queer isn’t unusual at all. In fact, to them it’s odd to stigmatise people based on who they fall in love with.” And then I was like, “Well, if that’s the case, and there’s likely to be more people in those relationships as a lack of the stigma, how would families look? How would families happen?” And that’s how I came to the idea of the the couple-matching and the fertility festival. 

So as much as this looks like an excuse for queer porn, it’s actually because I was like, “Here’s how I think queer elves would make a tradition of having children.”

So there’s a lot more stories to be told about it. I may write more. We’ll see! Gotta finish the current BTP chapter and progress a bit more with that first :3

Omg Asy I've been trying to remember a book series I got into a while ago then forgot about, I'm pretty sure it was your Heroine? I don't remember what the password was though. (Just to double check, girl of an unliked race because incorrectly seen as thieves, joins the military, gits gud at archery but is framed for theft seemingly proving everyone right, but it's part of a larger plot I hadn't gotten to yet. At least I HOPE it's yours after that. 😂)
