Students Do M@Re Art This Year
The Most-at-Risk (M@Re) program helps students from the City of Buffalo engage with the arts to build their confidence, self-expression, and career skills. With the help of teaching artists and the Erie County Department of Mental Health and Erie County Youth Detention Center, this year’s M@Re sessions introduced students to arts disciplines like slam poetry, digital music, bookmaking and printing, cartoon and zine art, creative writing, and more.
M@Re partnered with the Western New York Book Arts Center to print unique journals that collected students’ writing projects.
Students practice reflection, discussion, and creative problem-solving in the sessions at Central Library and on field trips to other culturals, such as the Book Arts Center for the printing workshop pictured above. For some it has been a transformative experience.
