So I saw a post about Taika Waititi
He seems like an awesome dude, and it got me thinking. I'm not sure if anyone has told anyone that Taika literally means Magic in Finnish and I love that.
The fifth petal book review
The story starts off with the brutal murdering of three women in 1989 leaving a little girl motherless, skip ahead to Halloween 2014 Rose a survivor of the murders is accused of killing a boy named Billy Barnes. Rose is taken into the police station but later transported to a local hospital's psychiatric ward while the case is further investigated. After hearing a news cast Callie ( the mentioned little girl ) returns to Salem after all these years being told Rose was dead. Callie stays with officer Rafferty and his wife Towner at there hotel and begins to visit Rose regularly in hopes that it will help her mental stability and snap her out of her trance like state. As time passes Callie begins to remember bits and pieces of the night of the murders in 1989 and helps the police fill in some missing information. Billy Barnes mother starts a petition to get the bodies exhumed and tested for DNA in hopes of pinning the murders on Rose. Callie attends a fancy Thanksgiving party at Rafferty and Towners friend Emily's house, where she meets her, her husband Fin and there son Paul and later treats Emily with music therapy for her cancer. Paul shortly after takes Callie to Norman's woe where she has flash backs of the night of the murders and a party she and her mother and mothers friends attended before they were killed. It's here that Callie remembers a important but terrifying bit of information. Rafferty digs for more information on Leah and her family, and her disappearance. Local's start to recognize Callie and torment her, forcing her out of Rafferty's hotel. She moves to Paul's boathouse with him to live as " just friends " . Rose spends Christmas with Callie and Paul at his mother's house. After the holidays Callie heads to Italy with Paul for his continued work on the caves in Matera. The pace picks up a bit after this and gets even more interesting as the author raps up the story and the killers true identity is revealed. Being from Boston and having been to Salem many times was what originally drew me to the book, overall I thought it lacked pace and was somewhat longwinded but I still enjoyed the mystery and magical aspects of it. I received a copy of this book for free for review purposes, all thoughts and or opinions are my own, unbiased and I was not compensated.
