There were many a days that she simply didn’t pay attention to her countdown as she went about her business. Though she did notice that it would get lower whenever she would go past or towards the city of Insomnia, even if she hardly stepped foot in the city limits less she was with a family member who was researching in the archives or she was going to her editor.
That was the only clue she had about the phenomena. Though it did not encourage her to go to the city more often. No, she would continue with her life, do her classes online, and go about her business.
Until she was given a manuscript by her mother to drop off in the city after she was set to meet with her professor in person. A task she would take to heart. Drop it off with whoever in the Citadel handled these matters and go home.
She spoke with the record keeper briefly, informing them that she wasn’t handling the royal family like her other family members did. No, instead her interests laid with something more historic, events of thousands of years ago that seemed to be heavily biased when the Founder King was on the throne.
Liz reached to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, and noticed that the counter was lower than it ever would be. Five seconds.
“Well I uh, hope you have a good day. My lord,” she spoke quietly and gave brief bow of her head as she turned to make her leave.
Her shoulder brushed against another as she was prepared to head down the stairs. Though as she was about to apologize, her eyes fell on the counter on her wrist and she quickly tugged her sleeve down to cover it.
“Apologies, your grace,” Liz muttered, her eyes diverting down.
Noctis has taken to his best friend’s habit of wearing a wrist band over his counter. Soulmates were a tricky business, with royalty. And he well-
Especially as the subject of his marriage came up in the ongoing negotiations for peace. But it didn’t bother the prince too much. He checked on it occasionally, and it rarely ticked down.
His soulmate must be somewhere relatively far away, and thankfully they didn’t come to Insomnia often. Well, that was until today, where he noticed it down to a few minutes and the prince started to panic-
He left some of his work with Ignis in a hurry as soon as he glanced down and noticed, wishing to do his best to avoid ever meeting them, and he took the stair well. He’d hide up on the records floor, doubting any soulmate of his would be there.
Noctis took the stairs too at a time, slowing only as he neared the top of the stair wells and he was brushing against a woman who made her polite apology, he took a breath as he brushed past her, nodding in acceptance of her apology and fixing his wrist band.
Eyes going wide, he turned.
“Wait...wait, miss. Um,” awkwardly he tugged the band on his wrist down, showing it to her, his heart pounding and hoping he’d somehow missed running past someone else. But...but needing to know.
He nodded towards her wrist, face blank except for a slight wrinkle of worry to his brow. “Did you...by any chance...” he said, tone drawn between hope and dread.
