the fab 5 being all in the same vaguely homogenous age group is sooo important to me. them loving each other SO much. them being just as helpless as each other when it comes to being able to do something to help one of them. none of them have authority over each other outside the field. their friends' lives are falling apart but so is theirs and it dictates their reaction to their friends' breakdowns. they yell at each other and say cruel things when they confront each other. it hurts even worse when one of them says the cruel thing because they were supposed to understand. they're all trying their best to support each other but there's only so much a fellow teenager with their own baggage can do. only so much a fellow teenager with their own problems and unresolved biases and anger and sadness and desperation can do for someone they love so much when sometimes they don't even want to be helped. they all really were just kids together. they've meticulously sutured each other's wounds in the field and randomly played red light-green light when they were bored one evening.
YOU GET ITTTTT YOU GET IT THEY WERE JIST KIDS. They were all kids and they were hurting in their own ways and a long time from now they’ll look back on these days as the simple ones but that doesn’t mean things didn’t hurt. It just means that at the end of the day, they always knew the others would be there for them, and always knew that they had friends. So they got hurt and they had a million problems but then they’d eat a pizza and laugh together.
They were all sidekicks. They all stood in the shadows of people they didn’t know if they could live up to, but they were in the shadows together. They understood what it was like, being them, in a way no one else can. These kids man
