Throwback to a very special Father’s Day when we got to sample the Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, paired with some very yummy chocolate bon bons at St Regis KL. The Macallan Harmony Collection is a new limited annual release series of single malt whiskies that shines a spotlight on The Macallan’s sustainability journey. The first edition in the series is The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, a unique collaboration with renowned pastry chef Jordi Roca of El Celler de Can Roca that strives to bring together the worlds of chocolate and whisky. (BTW, the box that the whisky comes in is made from discarded cocoa husks). Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan scoured The Macallan’s extensive stock of maturing whiskies, seeking out casks that displayed rare indulgent chocolate notes. The result is quite a unique Macallan, I must say. On the nose, I got honey, cinnamon, raw cacao, and nutmeg. Palate was a little odd for me in a good way - a bitter entry more like super dark chcolates, with tbe sweet honey and fruitier sherried notes coming out mis-palate, finishing with a long yet slightly spicy hint, and lingering bitter dark chocolates.
