Machina AU Bears Info Dump
Here is a bit of information and lore regarding the animatronic bears of Machina. Long post under the cut.
Machina bears are possibly one of the biggest, and the strongest types of animatronics. They usually reach between twelve to fourteen feet tall (or approximately 3.7 meters to 4.3 meters), and usually weigh over a ton. However, there is one known Machina bear that is much bigger. That bear is Glamrock Freddy. He is a whopping fifteen feet tall ( 4.6 meters).
Machina bears are omnivores by nature. It's not unusual to see a Machina bear to prefer berries over meat from time to time. However, when hunting they are a whirlwind of danger. They have the strength to take down machines three times their own size, and are capable of shattering bone, as in Machina bone that is as strong as steel, with little to no effort. They can reach speeds between forty to forty-five miles per hour (or approximately sixty-four to seventy-two kilometres per hour).
Machina bears can eat up to a quarter of their body weight in a single feeding. Combined with the fact that their bodies are constantly burning energy, this means they need to eat plenty, and often, more often than most machines in Machina. Their claws are capable of slicing through steel as if it were butter, and be over six inches ( fifteen centimetres) in length. The claws on their thumbs act as dewclaws, basically designed like a gut hook to inflict serious injury to opponents in battle or potential prey. However, the dewclaws are hardly used, and are reserved for emergencies only as these claws are sharper than the rest, and are capable of disemboweling another machine.
Machina bears do not hibernate during the winter. However, they do put on some extra weight, and their fur gets much thicker during the autumn. This is to help keep them warm during the cold winters. However, their energy levels will drop in the winter, making them feel sluggish and lazy throughout the winter. This is to conserve energy since hunting is usually difficult during this time. They will then only need to eat once a day during the winter time as the fat they have gained acts as their main energy source during the winter.
By the time spring comes, they will be back to normal and will shed their winter coat. They may need assistance with this. They will get their appetite back, and will resume their natural behaviors as usual. There is a good reason why the bears don't go fully into hibernation. They have strong protective instincts. This means they are meant to love and nurture while also fighting fiercely to protect their loved ones. These instincts are the reason why the bears are often associated with guardians, and protectors of the innocent.
Glamrock Freddy has been showing these instincts long before he made it to Machina, and that most certainly is no coincidence. He was different back in the human world, giving humans a glimpse of the great protectors that the bears in Machina are known to be. The bears also most often to be the ones in charge of the household because of this. It is tradition in Machina for the protectors to be the heads of the households, so not only are bears protectors, but leaders, guiding their “families” through hard times, and protecting them when they need it most.
In all, Machina bears have secured their place in Machina culture. Even some deities of Machina are in fact bears. They are a vital part to Machina, and are not to be taken lightly in battle.
