Gene Autry-Lois Wilde "The singing cowboy" 1936, de Mack V. Wright.
The Big Show (1936)
Gene Autrey in a dual role as an egotistical talentless cowboy movie star and his down-to-earth hard-working trick-riding song-singing stunt double who ends up impersonating him at a big western festival which causes no end of logistical and romantic problems. there's also blackmail, a car crash, escaped cattle to round up, fisticuffs, mistaken identities, heartbreak, disguises, and horseback chases. Which all sounds more exciting than it actually is in the movie which dampens the potential at almost every opportunity.
The riding and stunt-work are good. Autrey's not much of an actor but his meager skills are enough to get by in this story. The music is well performed but mostly forgettable.
