hi macy! i love your gifs, but it's been so long since i last giffed im afraid i forgot how to do it :( could you rec me some gif tutorials or even tips of your own?

THIS is the first gif making tutorial i ever used and it has never failed me. it has literally everything you need! i use mplayer and photoshop '26. mplayer is great because it doesn't duplicate frames and is super user friendly. and photoshop is...well, photoshop.
when it comes to making gifs, my best advice is to learn color theory, try weird shit, and don't be afraid of saturation! curves, levels, hue/saturation, selective color, and vibrance are my most used adjustment layers (in that order). 30-60 frames is the most ideal gif length but that's just my personal opinion. also i just started using actions and oh my god USE! ACTIONS! i cannot believe all the time i've wasted over the last 5 years by not using them. at LEAST use them to convert your files from frames to a smart object or something!
a couple of other housekeeping notes:
tumblr's default post size for gifs is 540px wide and they have to be under 10MB, so adjust when needed
save on adaptive and not selective for smaller files with virtually identical quality
and, if you need to shrink the file even more, just go to the "lossy" box and put in 1, then 2, then 3, until the file is under 10MB. don't go over 25 or it'll start to degrade the image quality on level visible to the naked eye. and nobody wants that
