And it's hardly surprising with anthems like afterglow #Lazy Sunday and the criminally underappreciated song of a baker making up a solid a side of hard hitting 60s rock #The second side is immediately more challenging: a mini concept album (or concept half album) Happiness Stan is unapologetically weird and #Self consciously avant garde piece. The story of Stan who sees a half moon in the night sky and sets out to find the missing half with the #Help of a giant fly and towards the end of the set the nature loving hippy Mad John. It's peculiarly British and smacks of the kind of #Thing the kinks were doing with village green only taken further and weirder to almost monty python like surrealism. And yknow what it #Deserves to be better known! There are some iconic songs mixed in there like the hendrix inspired Rolling Over (I say inspired; they #Straight up stole the riff to Foxy Lady but when it's this good who cares). And then right towards the end we get this song which signals a #Total shift in sound. Marriott provides a beautifully soft vocal but in the rowdier chorus parts slips seemlessly into his more familiar #Cockney drawl. The song itself is pure late 60s; John represents the non conformist peace loving positivity of that era but as in real life #A lack of understanding leads to people fearing him rather than trying to understand. But John's happy. He's found peace and freedom in the #Rejection of societal norms and possessions #This got a single release in the USA only but unsurprisingly it didn't chart. Its not a song that entirely works removed from the context #Of the album or the mini concept album anyway. I assume it also removed the gobbledegook intro and outro from Stanley Unwin which would #Have been completely unintelligible (or even more so) to an American audience. Its an acquired taste aspect of the album but its grown on #Me over the years #Lmao OK not a USA only release: I've just noticed the image I've used is of an Australian pressing. I guess what I meant was no UK release
