We love Mad Max, which means we love Australia. Even those of us who have never been there have draw inspiration, joy, and meaning from that crazy down under home of doofing, fanging, and chrome. Australia needs our help, but what can we do? We can write and draw - a lot.
How it works:
Step 1) Creators volunteer to write or draw something in the period of time from January 24th to February 2nd. Creators may start a new project, add to a WIP, or take a prompt. Creators may chose an Australian Fire Relief charity to support or let their sponsor pick. This blog will offer suggestions in a future post.
Step 2) Sponsors pledge to donate, at least $.01 Australian or equivalent in your local currency per word or per pixel created during the Create-A-Thon. This is a one creator, one sponsor system. If someone has already signed up as sponsor for a creator you want, you can boot them by pledging more money. You and a friend can join forces to sponsor someone together, but one person must be primary contact.
Step 3) January 19th, sign-ups will close. Sponsors who have been outbid will be paired with any creators without sponsors. Final Creator/Sponsor pairing will be announced January 20th, and contact information will be given so prompts, charities, and general encouragement can be discussed.
Step 4) January 24th to February 2nd creator’s local time: the Create-A-Thon is on. Creators will post all work to the Mad for ‘Straya AO3 collection which will remain hidden. If you are adding to an existing WIP, please start a new chapter and put the new word count in an Author’s Note at the top. Art must be new.
Step 5) February 3rd: All works are due. Creators will post to the Mad for ‘Straya AO3 collection and provide word/pixel count to their Sponsor and to the event manager (me! @so-shiny-so-chrome ). Works do not have to be finished.
Step 6) February 9th: Proof of donation is due to the event sponsor (me! @so-shiny-so-chrome ). All donations must be in before the collection is unveiled.
Step 7) February 10th: the Mad for ‘Straya AO3 collection is unveiled along with word/pixel counts and the amounts that we raised. Witness us!
Further details will be given as this moves along. This whole project is a work in progress, and your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Six Sentence Sunday- Mad Max
His Saint was a mighty man.
A towering being of muscle and pure willpower that refused to bend down to anyone else's will no matter how tall the odds were stacked against him. Max took on challenges that would have killed lesser men, never believing he could fail.
Mutilated as Chumbucket had been in the past, his only strength laid in manipulating vehicles so there was much he admired in Max, the talented driver that had been graciously delivered unto him from above.
He was everything Chum could have asked for and more.
Chum's faith in Max was second only to the Angel made steel, the Magnum Opus that had haunted his every waking moment.

Mad For ‘Straya is a Mad Max fandom project to raise funds for relief around the Australian bushfire crisis in 2020. We love Australia and we want to help!
Getting us started: make a donation, get a fic zine as a thank you
Easy as, mate! Here’s how it works.
Donate $5 - $10 in your currency to Australian fire relief
Email proof of donation to [email protected]
Get a reply with a .PDF zine, Wasteland Souls
Wasteland Souls was a fan project given away at Wasteland Weekend 2017. It’s twenty-one short stories in the spirit of Mad Max: Fury Road. Genfic, with mature postapocalyptic themes.
If you like Max Rockatansky and Furiosa, their Wasteland friends and foes, and postapocalyptic sci-fi, this is for you. In the Wasteland, only the fierce or the fortunate survive. Yet road warriors and outcasts alike search for refuge, connection - even hope.
The Wasteland wants to live, too…It can’t do it alone, no more than we can.
You can donate to any Australian fire relief fund. Consider these:
Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities - many of Australia’s First Nations people have been affected by these tragic circumstances, this fund helps them directly.
ARC TRC – National Wildfire Bushfire Program – supports volunteer wildlife carers looking after burned and injured animals.
Wild 2 Free – Kangaroo sanctuary and wildlife feeding program - they were hosting animals displaced by the fires, then got hit by a fire directly. Help!
Support for families of Australian volunteer firefighters killed fighting the blazes - Set up by the New South Wales (Sydney area) Rural Fire Service.
Every bit of your chrome helps Australia fix what’s broken. We’ll reply with thanks and your zine .PDF within 48 hours of your email.
We’re also running the Mad Max Create-a-Thon
If you want to contribute creative work or to get a story from your own prompt, we’ve got another fundraiser, The Mad Max Create-a-Thon - read this post for details. Recruiting creators and sponsors now!

I'm really sad that every time I try to search for cool Mad Max posts and art, 90% of the results are related to Stranger Things. While I love both, when I search for Mad Max, it is NEVER because of Stranger Things.
Hi there! I’m @princelydisaster and I’m an artist for the Mad for Straya benefit!
Mad for ‘Straya is a fundraiser by the Mad Max fandom to support those who are affected by the fires in Australia. Creators like myself are offering to write, draw, and create for patrons - who will be donating to charities that help out.
Basically sponsors pledge a certain amount of money to donate, show proof of donation, and then the creator of their choice makes something proportionate to that donation. You donate a lot? You get a lot in return! Doesn’t have to be strictly Mad Max requests, could be a crossover or another fandom. In the end all the works will be released in a collection for everyone to see. You can read more on @so-shiny-so-chrome !
I’m signed on as an artist, so I’m drawing something of my sponsor’s choice...
Here’s some examples! -
I work with a lot of mediums - alcohol markers, watercolor, washi tape, you name it!
And one more thing - I’m open to shipping requests too! Even some NSFT content... inquire within... ;)
Ride on wastelanders! Let’s help them out!
