I’m sorry this took me forever, I made it bigger to make up for it. This was a hard one to write but I liked the challenge. Hope you enjoy this kinda surfer!au 💕

Your mother used to tell you that some things can’t be explained, no matter how much you try. There was something about Younghyun that just kept you hooked, despite knowing he was no good for you. Maybe it was his stupid smile, or how happy he looked whenever he grabbed his stupid surfboard with his stupid dolphin sticker on it, or his stupid sparkly eyes when he sat in front of a bonfire. God you hated him, but deep down you didn’t. And maybe, there was something seriously wrong with you. No, there was definitely something wrong with you.

“Are you going to tell him?” Sungjin asked as he sat next to you on the sand, head turned to the side to look at you “He’s been asking about you. He thinks you’re avoiding him.”

He was right to think that. You were avoiding him like the plague.

“I should…” You replied, not tearing your eyes from the dark ocean “But I won’t.”

“Why not?” He asked.

“Do you think it’ll change anything?” You asked, but didn’t wait for an answer “He’s not the type to fall in love with anyone. All I can do now is forget about him and move on.”

Sungjin didn’t say anything, deciding to look ahead. You could almost hear the wheels turning in his head as all the questions he wanted to ask you ran through his brain. Knowing that if you stuck around, he’d eventually spill them all, you decided to leave after a quick goodbye so that the rest of your night wouldn’t be ruined too.

The walk home was short, but that didn’t stop you from convincing yourself that you hated Younghyun and everything related to him the entire way. Hell, if you had to hate the stupid ocean where he spent most of his time in, then you would.

What surprised you, was someone sitting on the steps of your front porch. You squinted, hoping that the moonlight was enough to make out the person’s features. Once you realized who it was, your heart started beating faster and you came to a stop.

“What are you doing here?” You asked, your words coming out harsher than you intended them to.

“I…I’ve been trying to call you but you left your phone inside.” Younghyun gestured towards his phone, your contact displayed on the screen “I need to talk to you.”

You were about to say no, you didn’t want to have anything to do with him anymore. It was better if you kept your distance. But one look at him and his stupid pout and his stupid frown and you nodded. Damn him and damn your stupid heart for still falling for it every single time, for falling for him.

You turned the lights on after opening the door and took off your shoes as Younghyun closed the door. Your phone was indeed sitting on the coffee table, three texts and five missed calls from Younghyun. What could he possibly want from you so late at night?

“What do you need?”

“I-” He started but cut himself off, probably looking for the right words to say “There’s something weird about you.”

“Excuse me?” You raised your eyebrows as he squirmed under your gaze.

“No, that’s not it. I-” He took a deep breath before starting over “I feel weird when I’m around you.”

Your breath got caught up in your throat at his words. Why was he even telling you all of this? It was like twisting the knife in an already deep wound. Might as well just finish the job.

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t know either…” Younghyun shook his head and ran a hand through his hair in frustration “I just don’t understand.”

“What don’t you understand?” You asked in a shaky voice, prepared to hear the worst.

“I-I can’t get you out of my fucking head. Everywhere I look there’s always something that reminds me of you.”

Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion until it finally hit you after a few seconds. Suddenly, your heartbeat increased and it seemed like a weight had been lifted off your chest. God you hated him. Your lips curled up in a smile as he kept rambling, you couldn’t help it.

“I go out with my friends and I don’t even bring anyone home anymore because I’m half drunk and all I keep thinking is about how much I miss you…I look for your face in places I know you won’t be and I want to reach out to you even though it goes against everything I believe in and…” He cut himself off when he heard you laugh “Is this funny to you?” Younghyun asked, eyebrows raised in slight annoyance by your mocking.

“It is. Because you don’t understand.”

“What don’t I understand?”

“You like me.”

He opened his mouth and closed it a few times. It was the first time in your life you had seen Younghyun speechless and pride grew in your chest, knowing that you were the one that made him like that.

“What?” He asked softly after a few seconds.

“Does your heart speed up when you’re around me?” He nodded “Do you feel butterflies in your stomach when you think of me?” He nodded again “You like me.” You smiled.

Younghyun shook his head in denial, eyebrows furrowed as he processed what you had just told him.

“And you know why?” You paused “You’re used to have everyone chasing you and I didn’t fall for it. For once, you were the one doing the chasing and you liked it.”

Younghyun smiled for a second as he remembered the time he was after you, like a teenage boy with a crush. But you wouldn’t budge, not impressed by his antics. And he tried harder unaware that it was slowly working. Hell, you only knew it was working when he was already kissing your neck with his hands inside your shirt. But soon, his expression turned serious as he recognized the mocking tone in your voice once again.

“And when I finally let you in my pants, I was the one who dumped you and not the other way around.” You stated as you walked towards him.

“You didn’t dump me.” He retorted, voice getting weaker as you approached him.

“Please.” You chuckled “I did to you what you did to everyone else.” It was true. You didn’t call back, you didn’t pick up his calls and you avoided him at all costs. It was the same thing he had done to everyone he slept with and he was only realizing it now “And you liked it, didn’t you?”

You stopped walking when you were close enough to feel his body heat and the smell of sea salt that always seemed to linger around him, no matter how long it had been since he was in the ocean. Younghyun whined and gripped your hips, pulling you closer to him. His grip tightened when you started trailing small kisses down his neck.

“Say it.” You insisted.

“Yes.” He whispered.

Once the word left his lips, you pulled away despite his efforts to pull you back into him. You took a look at him, eyes half open and pupils dilated as he expectantly waited for your next move.

“Well…” You smirked “I like you too.”

Younghyun sighed in relief as he pulled you close once again, kissing you as if his life depended on that. In a way, it did because he had no idea what he was actually feeling. There was this cocktail of emotions in his chest that he couldn’t pinpoint what it was exactly. All he knew was that it felt nice and he didn’t mind that they made him confused and tongue tied as long as it was only towards you. Once you pulled away, Younghyun buried his head in the crook of your neck with a groan.

“Jae is never going to let me live this down.”

“Why?” You chuckled, one of your hands coming up to brush through the soft strands of his hair.

“He told me I liked you too. I just didn’t believe in him.”

“Well, fuck him.” You shrugged with a laugh.

“Yeah, fuck him.” He agreed “Wait, no.” He pulled away in a slight panic “Don’t fuck him.” You both laughed at his words.

Your mother was right, some things can’t be explained. And for a long time, the reason for you attraction towards Younghyun was a secret that belong to the Universe only. But after that night, you understood that everything falls into place eventually and that there are no secrets that time does not reveal. Maybe he was the wrong one for you, but this time, just this time, maybe two wrongs would make it right.

Tzain's mom brought him back to life with blood magic when he drowned, didn't she? So maybe to some extent they can bring back the dead

I did forget about that (why I’ve been wanting to do a few more read throughs, lol)! Seems like directly bringing someone backs requires a big sacrifice, then. I wonder if their soul/spirit has any say in it, though? Like of course a little Tzain came back to his mom, but if it was someone older who’d lived a life and had a stronger sense of self, could they fight it?
