Nishabdham aka Silence (2020) Review
In a nutshell: The twists and turns work well like in many mystery thrillers but you never come close to really care about the characters. I feel the location (USA) and the foreign actors are the biggest factors who work against the film.
There's a scene between Madhavan and Anushka Shetty towards the end of the film. The acting of Maddy in that particular scene is pure gold. But the interaction between the Indian and American actors doesn't click at all. It comes across too artificial.
My biggest issue with this film is the fact that the same plot could have been easily placed in India, too. Why do you cast someone like Michael Madsen if you can't do justice to his character? The bad writing of the English dialogues is inexcusable.
I really think that this plot could have worked well with the audience if it had been shot in India. Every time an Indian and an American actor have a conversation in the film, it feels odd as a viewer.
The film is not entirely bad and there are enjoyable moments as well but Silence is sadly one of those films that you probably won’t watch a second time.
