Trade Update - Cowboys
Chargers ship 4th and 5th (NE) round pick to Dallas for TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Jenkins played for the Cowboys and Giants last season, totaling 27 catches for 354 yards and one touchdown.
Trade Update - Falcons
The Chargers are preparing for a run in 2019, and are putting their draft capitol towards players that should provide less of a gamble. In exchange for their second round pick the Chargers are receiving LB De’Vondre Campbell and a 6th round pick from Atlanta.
Campbell is a physical freak at linebacker. At 6′4″ 232 lbs he ran a 4.58 40. In 2018 Campbell recorded 48 tackles, 5 sacks, a forced fumble and 2 interceptions.
2018 Offseason - Stage 4
QB Teddy Bridgewater has agreed to terms on a 4 year, $38.8M contract. In 2018 Bridgewater only attempted 7 passes as a backup in New Orleans, but completed 5 of them for 52 yards and a touchdown. The 26 year old started his career in Minnesota, earning the starting gig for his first two seasons. After suffering one of the worst knee dislocations in sports history in 2016 he was put on the road to recovery. He then was signed by the Jets in 2018, who traded him to the Saints. He has shown that he is healthy, and with a good supporting cast he should be able to lead a playoff run.
HB Marshawn Lynch has agreed to terms on a 2 year, $7.4M contract. The 33 year old was a bellcow in 2018 for Oakland, with 262 carries for 932 yards and 6 touchdowns. Less will be expected of Lynch in LA, behind backs Melvin Gordon III and Austin Ekeler he should see the majority of his work during short yardage and red-zone situations.
2018 Offseason - Stage 3
QB Drew Stanton has agreed to terms on a 1 year, $2.1M contract. The 35 year old quarterback was a backup for the Texans last year, only throwing 2 passes (one for a touchdown). Stanton will play a backup role in 2019.
DB Adrian Phillips will be coming back to the Chargers. After contract talks fizzled out during the regular season Philips tried the free agency, where he found that the 3 year, $4.89M offer from the Chargers was his best option. Phillips had 8 tackles in 2018.
OL Justin McCray has agreed to terms on a 3 year, $6.45M contract. McCray will fill depth in Los Angeles.
FB Tre Madden has agreed to terms on a 4 year, $3.76M contract. Madden helped propel the 11th best rushing offense in Seattle in 2018.
LB Marquis Flowers has agreed to terms on a 3 year, $5.28M contract. On the Lions last season, Flowers recorded 74 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and one interception.
Trade Update - Bears
Chargers have agreed on a trade for OL Cody Whitehair. Bears will receive a 3rd round draft pick in compensation for the lineman.
The Chargers have been disappointed in their O-line play recently and John Ramble believes it is a team building block.
Trade Update - Patriots
Chargers have agreed on a trade to ship away Philip Rivers. Rivers disappointing play in the playoffs led to this move. After the retirement of Tom Brady this was a natural landing spot.
In compensation for Rivers the Chargers will receive OL Marcus Cannon as well as a 5th round draft pick. This move frees up over $13M cap space.
The Chargers will look to free agency to find a replacement, as they currently have no quarterbacks rostered. Head Coach John Ramble has been known to prefer mobile quarterbacks, so he will have a choice to make in the market.
2018 Offseason - Stage 2
P Bradley Pinion has agreed to terms on a 7 year, $11.6M contract. Pinion punted 35 times in 2018, averaging 43.3 yards. His longest punt was 72 yards, and he hit inside the twenty 20% of the time.
TE C.J. Uzomah has agreed to terms on a 4 year, $13.1M contract. The fast tight end had 10 catches for 54 yards and 1 touchdown with the Bengals in 2018.
FB Rod Smith is making a move back to RB for the upcoming season.
2018 Offseason - Stage 1
The Chargers have released OL Michael Schofield III and OL Joe Barksdale.
LB Uchenna Nwosu has made a move to his natural position of DE. As a linebacker in 2018 Nwosu recorded 24 tackles.
