Siren - Maddie : Judgemental and Controlling?

Okay, I don’t usually do this so bare with me... this is what has been going through my head LITERALLY all day today.

I have loved Ben & Ryn since episode one! But I was torn because I also loved Ben & Maddie..... up until episode 9 ‘Street Fight’ when Maddie was suddenly judgemental and controlling. So I’m no longer conflicted! Team Ryn!

Here’s my thinking...

Ben makes a decision that contradicts what Maddie wants and THIS is her reaction!?! So what? He can’t disagree with her or do anything without her permission? He’s wrong and she’s right end of story? They’re a team, helping Ryn, why isn’t she working WITH him?

BEN found Ryn. HE was her first friend, he taught her not all humans try to hurt you. Maddie helped BEN help Ryn. but Ben is the one who took responsibility for Ryn first. And he spent weeks searching the water for her last time she left. Maddie should know how hard it would be on Ben if she left again, not to mention got killed. So why does Maddie all of a sudden get to order Ben to stay and expect him to obey her? They worked as a team up until this episode... now all of a sudden she wants to call all the shots, control everyone?

When Ben, Ryn and Donna ran from the Centre, Maddie ORDERED them to wait... so he took them back to the houseboat and they waited ALL day.

When Maddie found out he was out searching with Xander she yelled at him ‘go home NOW’. But he didn’t listen, because he knew getting rid of the other two was the best way to protect Ryn. Maddie’s face when he hung up on her... she was so mad that he didn’t do what she demanded. Again she should be with Ben and Ryn helping... why is she still at the station?

Typically when dealing with the supernatural you keep the police OUT of it, because they don’t know what they’re dealing with.... So why is Maddie so hell bent on letting the cops try to handle two pissed off mermaids on a mission to kill? Why wouldn’t she trust Ryn and Donna could handle them and keep them from hurting people? Keep the secret.... it’s been the mission since episode1! It’s why she lied to her dad for so long, why they lied to Xander. Now she doesn't seem to care about keeping the secret?

Maddie tells Ben that his judgement is screwed up... but is it? Ben thinks if they kill these two then Ryn will be safe, she can stay.... They are trying to kill Ryn and Donna.....Ben wants to protect Ryn & Donna and keep Ryn with him..... everything he’s been through lately, anyone would want to fight to keep the people they care about safe.

Maddie stayed with Xander, saw his grief and anger; he reached out to her and she pushed him away.... but he’s “out of control” for wanting revenge? He is in a car with Ryn and Donna... he hasn’t hurt them, he just wants the merman who killed his dad.... seems in control to me. it’s hardly an unusual reaction to want revenge. Even the Sheriff understood it was grief! She wasn’t on the boat, she didn’t see the attack, the blood on the other boat after what happened to everyone onboard. She told her dad he couldn’t handle the mermaids, why is she so willing to let the cops take the lead now?

Why did Maddie suddenly change teams? Is she so desperate to not mess things up with her dad again that she’s taking his side over Ben&Ryn? And how is what Ben, Xander, Ryn and Donna done that was any different from anything else they’ve done all season? Why are Ben and Xander now considered be acting “insane”? How many laws did they break in episodes 1-8? breaking and entering; theft; withholding evident/information from the cops lol So why the change of heart?

Last episode Ben kinda lost faith in Ryn, his experience on the North Star had him pretty shaken. But Maddie was there to reassure him that Ryn was different, that she was good. Reminding him that they trust her, and she trusts them. She defended Ryn to Xander too, telling him Ryn was special. But now this episode her opinion shifts... why? her dad got hurt .... but her opinion had changed before that..... why is she so ready to throw Ryn, Donna and the others under the bus, sending the cops after them! Knowing the cops can’t handle them.... which only risks more lives..... risks exposing Ryn and Donna. Notifying the military of their presence. But Ben and Xander are the ones who are wrong, going too far? really??

And in the end... Ben was RIGHT! Ryn and Donna were able to manage the situation without involving the police and no one but the Sheriff got hurt.

Maddie is PISSED at Ben! He didn’t listen to her and now she’s icing him out for it?? Did her calling the cops help anything? NO. so why is she up so high on that horse? Donna could be dying... but she’d rather stay with her dad. Who is already being treated by medical professionals and in no danger?

Maybe HER judgement is screwed up!
