Important reminder, guys: It didn’t just feel real, it was real.

What they did to us in the finale was gaslighting, plain and simple. You’re not crazy, and it’s not just your imagination.

They did build a love story across the entire show.

They did put enormous care into filming their scenes, visually, emotionally, narratively.

Nick did not do anything wrong on screen (until now)

June did love Nick.

They did share deep, intimate, emotionally complex moments.

It was the emotional core of the entire show. That’s not something we made up. That’s what they gave us. Over years.

What they did now was simply flip it all, for shock value, for ratings, for that last-minute “nobody saw it coming” punch.

And how did they do it?

By taking the most loving, romantic, emotionally intelligent, loyal man on the show, stripping him of his dignity, robbing him of love and redemption, and killing him off like a dog.

Worse than Lawrence. Worse than anyone.

And the rest? They all live. They all get nuance. They all get soft endings. Nick alone is discarded, and we’re expected to just accept it?

No.

You are not wrong to be upset. You are not wrong to feel betrayed. You are not wrong to say: this was never just a subplot.

This was the heart of the story. And they destroyed it.

That’s not your delusion. gaslighting.

While working on the video, I rewatched some of the scenes with Luke and one of them really stuck with me. You know the one: June is outside, in full-blown rage, after Lawrence denies her access to Hannah. She’s breaking things, yelling, completely undone. And Luke runs out and wraps her in his arms like he’s saving her while she’s screaming “let me go!”

Someone may think it’s a romantic moment. Like he’s the strong man, showing up just in time to protect her from herself. But if you look closer… it’s not beautiful at all. June was in the middle of an emotional release. She needed to rage. She needed to scream. And Luke didn’t just interrupt he physically restrained her against her will (and oh god after Gilead it’s must be so triggering to her omg). Even when she said “let me go,” he didn’t. That’s not support. That’s control.

And the thing is he doesn’t do it to hurt her. He does it because he thinks it’s love. Because he wants to be the hero. Luke has always tried to play the rescuer. It’s part of his identity, the good guy, the protector, the husband who wants desperately to handle things. Even at the beginning of Gilead, when June lost her job and her rights, he didn’t say, “This is wrong, this is dangerous.” He said, “Don’t worry, I’ll make enough money. I’ll take care of you.” As if her oppression was a practical inconvenience he could fix.

And in season 5, it’s even clearer. He says to her: “I just want to protect you.” And she snaps back: “You don’t understand. I don’t need your protection.” Because she doesn’t. She needs space. And he can’t give her that because he’s too wrapped up in being the man. The one in charge. The one who saves.

But Nick? Nick is the opposite. He doesn’t try to “save” her. He doesn’t interrupt. He doesn’t restrain. He just stays present. In the car, when she breaks down and hits the window he lets her. In season 2, when she’s sobbing and hitting the steering wheel he gives her space. He watches. He feels it. He holds it without grabbing or fixing.

He’s not trying to be a hero. He’s just there. Solid and quiet and unafraid of her pain. And that’s what emotional maturity looks like.

So no that scene with Luke isn’t love. It’s not strength. It’s a red flag wrapped in a romantic edit. Because the partner who truly loves you isn’t the one who says “Let me protect you.” It’s the one who says “I trust you to feel everything and I’m not going anywhere.”

Now let’s summarize what they actually did. This is important. Read it. Really read it.

1. They broke the narrative contract with the audience

Viewers spent the entire show watching Nick being portrayed as an emotionally mature, loyal, kind character. His development was consistent and nuanced. And suddenly, in the final episode, without any build-up, his behavior collapses and this is not a plot twist, it’s a betrayal of narrative logic. Such an abrupt shift is a slap in the face to viewers who emotionally invested in this arc.

2. They destroyed the payoff after a long buildup

For six seasons, viewers followed June and Nick through pain, choices, moral struggles. They were constantly given hope: “Soon there will be something big.” They built huge emotional anticipation. And the payoff? A mockery. They just dumped the entire arc, not through catharsis or tragedy, but through a silly death without dignity or context. That’s a violation of dramatic justice.

3. They used fans as a tool

Fans of Nick and June were fed scenes, cinematography, parallels, close-ups only to be emotionally punished at the end for caring. That’s not storytelling. That’s manipulation. It’s like promising a feast and shoving moldy bread in someone’s face at the end (a love letter lmao I’m like ???)

4. They replaced tragedy with cynicism

They could have killed Nick tragically, with depth, as a symbol of how even good people die if they keep looking away too long. That would have worked.

But no. First, they make him look like a traitor. Then they kill him. And they don’t even let us mourn him. This isn’t tragedy, it’s a cynical stunt for cheap impact.

I can’t believe that only him and Lawrence died 😱 and that he was constrasted with Lawrence

5. They killed the rewatch value

People won’t want to rewatch the show. Because everything that once felt beautiful, honest, meaningful, now feels like a lie. Because the ending undoes the journey. And good storytelling should do the opposite: the ending should complete the journey, make it more powerful. Here? It erases it.

In conclusion:

They sold fans a love story and in the end, spit in their faces.

All of this! The fans/audience have every right to feel betrayed… because we were.

This is certainly not the first show to pull this shit… and it’s ruining the tv watching experience!

As a non shipper of both Karedevil and K*stle (using this so it won't disturb the tag) the real tragedy is this isn't an actual love triangle, not when ir comes to the decisions the story and writers will make.

The moment they established Karen and Matt as foils to Vanessa and Fisk, the second they made Frank into Adam's foil, it was done.

There are too many instances of Karedevil being used as a foil to Visk, from Fisk abandoning Vanessa and Matt pushing Karen out, to the visual cue of Vanessa and Fisk touching foreheads with Adam's body in the middle of them and then Matt and Karen together with Frank between them... Narrative wise, it all seems to point towards Karen and Matt being together in the end.

Frank is represented by Adam here, he's the man that stands between the couple but that won't be chosen at the end. Whether or not Karen already knows that or not is up for debate (I think she already knows it, but alas) but the narrative already does and I think so does Frank.

OK! 6x03 Osblaine Thoughts

So, admittedly, it's a little difficult for me to talk about Osblaine when that spoiler of Nick betraying June and her being blinded by love kind of looms over their interactions because I can't be too confident in the conclusions I draw until this apparent betrayal and its fallout happens. That being said, let's get into it.

I love this episode for Nick and June because I think it speaks to the staying power of their bond on June's end and more interestingly, she communicates that to Nick.

Throughout the series, the viewer can see it physically, the way she smiles when she hears his voice

or, like in this episode when she hears him approaching

the other characters see it just by watching her with him or listening to her speak about him

Holly sees it after hearing June speak about Nick and seeing how she acts about Nick once but Nick is left with

and throughout five seasons, he never let June see how it must be for him to have this love for her that is like a state of being, and feel as though that's not reciprocated because that's not Nick but in this episode, he's having this sort of reckoning with how impulsive and reckless he acts and kind of bizarre the situation is

because he loves someone who chose someone else and who he's nothing to

only for her to be like, no we're in this together

this feeling

is very much mutual, I have never left you, I have always been here with you

and it's also her answering the question her mother asked in 6x02 where she asks point blank, is Nick included in the people that you love and June can't bring herself to answer what is pretty clear to anyone with some modicum of awareness and she's answering that question verbally now to Nick who is asking the same question, and she confirms it again when they say goodbye where she tells him, let's cut the bullshit,

let's stop saying the right, honourable thing with our goodbyes

because it's never going to be goodbye because I love you

we will always be connected, I will see you again

and I say this because, the response to Nick's conflict could've been June saying I've been unfair to you, thank you for everything that you have done for me, I will leave you in peace now, but she refuses to do that because she's in love with him and they depart with a smile, their smile

so this episode is yet another reaffirmation of her love for him.

Another thing that I quite enjoy about this episode is how it showcases that Nick and June operate on this level together

where there's a kind of "we need to protect them, they're not like us" vibe

kind of going back to what Elisabeth said about June's character:

Over the course of the series, June becomes a completely new person, a person who does find her voice, an angry voice, a powerful voice. She’s a different person than she was. A lot of the romance with Nick is because of that. They are two people who understand and share the burden of Gilead’s tyranny.

and I think this is further compounded by - and this isn't to shit on Luke or anything - but his attempt to be active and it going disastrously and June and Nick being the ones to get him out and doing so together.

June holds on to Luke when the patrol car comes and her instinct is to protect him

she holds onto Nick after he did what he had to to continue that protection and she goes to him for comfort after the shock

I don't know, I watched this episode and I just saw how these two characters were very much in love.

It's funny when fans reduce Jess and Rory's connection into an "I can fix him" trope. Did they... watch the show? Rory did NOT fix Jess. They dated and he struggled, imploding at the end of his senior year with a spectacular series of mistakes. Jess doesn't get "fixed" until later, and he does it all on his own. It's kinda the whole point of his arc. Rory didn't fix him, nor was she trying to fix him. She just loved him and believed in him even when he was struggling.

You know who WAS Rory's "I can fix him" guy? Logan. He's the guy who magically changes for Rory. He's suddenly monogamous, he's real quick to move in with her, he suddenly starts liking his job. All the characters comment on this, too. Logan notes that he never thought he'd like a relationship until Rory, Mitchum credits Rory with Logan's good choices, and Rory worries out loud that she's "tamed" Logan. And once they break up, Logan reverts to most of his bad behaviors. He's the definition of an "I can fix him" trope. Just another thing that makes Logan so overwhelmingly boring.

Alaz watching Asi leave on a ‘date’ with his childhood friend, Tolga.

Tolga telling Asi that Alaz did not hook up with that girl.

Asi immediately running back to the bar to see Alaz + invite him to live with her since he is homeless… only to walk into a misunderstanding.

He obvs gets up and runs after her … bc it’s one thing her being jealous … but he would never want her thinking he would hurt her like that. His life LITERALLY flashed before his eyes.

Only for Asi to end their relationship … at the exact same spot where he told her that he cannot leave her … if she wants this relationship to end … she needs to leave bc he will not and cannot let go of her.
