my comedy podcast recommendations for everyone else who is missing dan and phil content this week
DISCLAIMER: most of these are based around the LA internet/comedy scene, so i would say a lot of them are very similar in humor and comedy style (excluding the last rec which is a more different concept).
anyways, all of these podcasts can be found on youtube for free! some are also available on other streaming apps like spotify and apple, but i'm not sure for certain which ones.
if you're into things like smosh/dropout/try guys/mythical or just internet comedians in general, you should check out:
perfect person
a call-in advice show
hosted by miles bonsignore
the host (and usually a guest host) give live advice on the phone for a caller's specific problem. miles is such a charismatic and funny host, he always meshes well with the people that he has on even if it's clear he doesn't know them well, and the calls that they respond to are some crazy situations. my favorite was when someone called in saying they accidentally slept with their favorite professor's son AND daughter. also, miles has used the show to raise money for palestinian relief and legal services for immigrants in the U.S., which is awesome.
smosh mouth
a variety show
hosted by shayne topp and amanda lehan canto
even if you don’t watch smosh, this is a fun podcast to listen to! the hosts are great and there’s almost always another cast member or guest on the pod to add some variety episode-to-episode. each episode has a different theme or game, so i’d just look through the channel and see if any titles catch your interest. i personally enjoy their try not to laugh episodes.
smosh also has lots of other podcast-style shows, like their "reddit stories" series (hit or miss for me personally), URL (fun interview style show but more video based), and sword AF (dungeons and dragons series, discontinued after season 2).
artists on artists on artists on artists
a character improv show
hosted by kylie brakeman, jeremy culhane, patrick mcdonald, and angela giarratana (who is also in smosh!)
each episode, the hosts play characters at a roundtable based on a specific job in media production. the episode themes range from student filmmakers to animatronic designers to cancelled youtubers to mall santas. they've made hundreds of episodes already and have had lots of guests (some of my favs being people from dropout and saturday night live). i recommend their “the look” episodes where they basically do a more chaotic spoof of “the view”.
business casual show
a segment-based show
hosted by jeremy elder, cory peter lane, and hunter saling
this podcast is more loosely structured than the other ones; each host prepares a bit that the others don’t know about and then take turns presenting them. these can be activities, characters, minigames, literally anything. they also tend to have different comedians as guests on their podcast, who bring their own bits. i really enjoy the chemistry between the three hosts; it's like you're just watching a group of best friends trying to make each other laugh. every episode is completely different.
syd and olivia talk shit
a variety show
hosted by syd heller and olivia delaurentis
this show is also loosely structered, very chaotic, and honestly hard for me to describe. there's a few different segments for each episode, often based on the guest that they have. the hosts are just so entertaining and have great chemistry, it's like they're on a shared comedic wavelength with each other. they've had a really interesting run of guests (ex: matthew mercer, bob the drag queen, leslie jones, multiple starkid actors, and jerry trainor aka spencer from icarly). sorry i can't explain the show better but just know i would listen to these women talk about anything.
give it to me straight
an interview show
hosted by maddy morphosis
as some background, maddy is a drag queen who was featured on RPDR season 14 (?) and is well known for being the first straight male to compete on the show. she uses her show to interview well-known drag queens and kings, as well as content creators (ex. brittany broski, vanillamace, brandon rogers) and musicians (ex. slayyyter, bbno$). i really enjoy the episodes where she talks to other drag artists as they're often really insightful, not only into the industry but also the different walks of life that queer people go through. maddy goes full nardwuar on her guests and asks some deep-cut questions. she's also great at being entertaining while also knowing when to give her guests the space to talk about more sensitive topics.
thx for reading and feel free to add more recs! would love to get into some other types of shows :)
