hey just a PSA for rpdr fic community!!

a few of my friends found out that google’s AI scrapes from both tumblr and ao3 apparently :’) so if you post on tumblr and say “[fic name] by [fic author] on ao3” and then include details about the fic, the queens it’s about, anything like that, then google’s AI will return that info if you search with the right combination of words (like “trixya fic recommendation” for example and then it would pull from tumblr posts about trixya fanfics EVEN IF THE FICS ARE LOCKED ON AO3). similarly if you have your fics public on ao3 the same thing can happen but this one’s a little more common knowledge i think, the tumblr one was the one that really threw me off

i know some people are totally chill about this kind of thing but i personally HATE the idea of this and i think many people will feel similarly so that’s why i’m sharing. just something to be aware of when we’re discussing fics on here and ESPECIALLY other people’s!!!!

here’s an example of this happening with one of my fics (straight from ao3 as far as i know)

for ao3, privating your fics and setting them so only registered users can see will make this go away. for TUMBLR, one thing you can do (that i think is a good practice in general) is go to your tumblr settings and go to Visibility, then toggle this option for “discourage external searching” on? i have no idea how helpful this will be and maybe someone who knows more can chime in, but as far as we’ve found blogs like this will not be indexed by the google AI

Don't Like, Don't Read (DLDR): If a story, relationship, or trope bothers you, hit the back button. Leaving negative comments over subjective preferences breaks core fandom norms.

Phrase Update Requests Politely: Demanding "Update soon!" can feel transactional. Pair your excitement with appreciation for the current chapter (e.g., "Loved this chapter, can't wait to see where the story goes!").

Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere

So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.

So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.

And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the “freedom of expression” side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)

Finally posted the theatre au I have been working on! I’m not gonna lie, originally it was much longer but I had to shorten it for my creative writing class. I most definitely could make it longer and add more of a back story and continue on where the story leaves off, but for now please enjoy Rules Are Rules!

A little snippet:

Out of all of the late nights they spent in the theatre, Suzie never disturbed Jewels’ work. Suzie knew that Jewels had a lot to do. Suzie knew that creating an entire Audrey II puppet took an exorbitant amount of effort. Suzie knew that she should just leave, maybe grab a coffee and drop it off but she should not, under any circumstances, disturb Jewels’ flow. It was rule thirty-three. Still, Suzie walked into the costume shop. Suzie would later defend the action by saying it was a lapse of judgement, a simple mistake. Jewels would argue she was following her heart.

Pro-censorship wattpad refugees drama is so funny to me because when I started using ao3 as a kid I was a devout mormon and I thought that reading anything even remotely pornagraphic was a sin and would ruin my life. So when I was 13 and found ao3 I went "oh awesome I found a fanfic website with a filtering system so I won't ever randomly stumble into porn. This is great! I was really worried about seeing something I didn't want to see on the other platforms." I didn't read any smut online until like three years later. If a mormon 13 year old can figure out 'don't like don't read' wattpad users can too cmon you guys i believe in you.
