my beloved!!!!!!! thank you for playing!!!! I answered "of blood" in an earlier ask, so see below from "no cracking open of heaven", the AU where Marcus yoinks Mads out of the Den of Thieves early on and raises her as his ward, and she's only slightly less feral because of it!

Anyway, being a little runt means she fits deeper into the vents than most kids would. The walls are tight and close and dirty, but they make her feel safe because even if someone found her, they’d never be able to get to her. She dreams, sometimes, when she’s lying in bed at night and her whole body hurts down to her bones, that she crawls into the vents and never ever leaves, and no one ever sees her or hears her or finds her ever, ever again. 

It’s in the vents when she first hears the whispering about the weird man downstairs.
