OH MY GOD SHE’S NOT EVEN ANIMATED SHE’S JUST A STILL DRAWING SLIDING DOWN THE SCREEN
...this is quite possibly the worst clock I have ever seen in my entire life ever
She’s reacting badly to the thing’s Madoka’s saying, which...hrm. Okay, I’ve only got a couple data points, but here we go:
--knows who Madoka is despite never having met before
--knows things about Madoka and the school that she shouldn’t know
--reacts poorly to being called by her family name and insists on her personal name, though this could just be a character quirk
--appears to react negatively to Madoka not knowing who she is
There are two possibilities, the way I see it. Either Madoka is some kind of Chosen One, she was having a prophetic dream, and Homura’s been following Madoka around for quite some time/was sent to look after her; or they’re experiencing a time loop and Homura’s able to maintain continuity.
I’m honestly leaning more towards the latter explanation. It’s possible that Homura’s just a creepy stalker who expected Madoka to recognize her from constant chance meetings/has a Big Ol’ Gay Crush, but the episode so far and the tone of Homura’s reactions are pushing me towards overt time shenanigans.
Not to mention, if this is a well-done time-travel show, no wonder people are so excited for me to watch it! I’m excited for me to watch it!
I LAUGHED SO HARD I ALMOST HAD A GODDAMN ASTHMA ATTACK
JUST FUCKIN
HUCKS A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AT HER
HOLY SHIT
well that was a sudden and jarring transition how the hell did you even get from there to here
all right. fucking. listen. tell me the truth. how much money did this disgustingly real-looking cgi escalator cost you
I had an interesting realization a few months back. A lot of manga have big splash panels or pages highlighting a new or new-ish character, accompanied by a speech bubble of somebody shouting their name. Until then, I always thought it was just a little bit of ostentatiousness, but what I realized was that something was getting lost in the translation to English--those panels exist so that a Japanese audience (which has to deal with mutable kanji as opposed to the largely-phonetic English alphabet) will know how to write the character’s name.
