イタリア フィレンツェ 路上チョークアート
Meet one of the hungry samurai's companions, the artistic samurai (also known as Pepe).
The hungry samurai stumbled across this gifted samurai while adventuring through Circular Quay in Sydney in 2012. Pepe had come all the way from Italy, to showcase his style of art to the people of Sydney.
His style of painting is known as Madonnaro which can be defined as a traditional Italian street artist who travels to different locations painting large sized Madonnas on pavements and large canvases with pastels. According to Pepe, his style of painting is now a rarity to see and believes he is one of the few professional Madonnaro painters left. What makes him different to the other street painters is that he does not sell his paintings. He has no intention in using his talent to make a success out of it. He instead donates his paintings to churches, councils, communities and charity organisations. The only thing he accepts from the public are acknowledgement, appreciation and the tips that he receives. He states that the tips he makes from the public is enough for him to continue what he is doing.
Pepe likes to think outside the box. There will be times where he will create artworks that are not related to Madonna. An example will be when he created a 3D artwork featuring Spongebob, Patrick and Gary. Another example will be when he created a ridiculously large Where's Wally (Waldo) painting. By doing these contemporary style, it has drawn attention to more groups.
Sadly (but exciting at the same time), Pepe has decided to create a new chapter to his life by showcasing his talents to different countries. Few months ago, he has departed Sydney and Circulay Quay felt empty. Right now, Pepe is travelling around Australia. He will then travel overseas in which it will eventually end at the place where he started off, Italy. The hungry samurai was pleased with what his companion was doing. It is better of for him to show his gifted talented to rest of the world and hope that the world's recognition will inspire young ones to follow his step.

Ciao, I am Guiseppe, an Italian Madonnaro.
What is a "Madonnaro"?
Since the 16th century the Madonnari (singular form: Madonnaro) were itinerant artists from the South of Italy - Puglia - many of whom had been brought into the cities to work on the huge cathedrals.
When the work was done they needed to find another way to make a living and thus would often recreate the paintings from the church onto the pavement.
Aware of festivals and holy days in each province and town, they travelled to join in the festivities to make a living from observers who would throw coins if they approved of the artists work.
