Gotta say I love Varic Vallenar's tendency to correct misconceptions about magic, except it's unclear how his explanation is meaningfully different from whatever he's correcting.

Clueless character: "Oh so water manifestation magic turns Aetheric energy into water?"

Varic, internally: you...this is why no one my age is a competent Archmage

Varic: "Water manifestation magic calls upon the Aether to bring water into reality. The more energy you can wrangle, the more water you can create, but it's funneling, not becoming, the water that you summon. That distinction is subtle but important."

Me, reading: ok I think I got it for this hypothetical example but not the other ones in the actual text of TLH

On a side note I wonder if after losing Crusher, Yan Shoumei later got a new Blood Shadow and if she got access to dreadbeasts to make a Crusher 2.0: the Hemaulic Press.

I think that if Yerin had remembered how she wasn't so bad after all, that Dross would have eventually reminded Lindon to provide a couple of resources. He had a couple of years, after all.

I wonder what Northstrider would do on a world with no geographic or magnetic north. Then I remember he’s called Northstrider because he goes north to find strong opponents.

What would he do on a world where the distribution of strong enemies is completely uniform? Worse yet, what if the “strong enemy” density function depends on longitude and with a slight emphasis on the equator? Would he be known as “Timezone Strider”?
