"so i made a Black Sails blog because i wanted somewhere to reblog spoiler-y stuff without giving away giant plot points/spoilers to my followers on my main blog. because i'm high-key trying to convince everyone to watch this show, ngl. " lmao you sound like me. If I post before a Read More I try to be as incredibly vague with names and pronouns as possible
yeeuppp! Pretty much. It’s difficult because the Gay™ is one of the main attractions for people who might be interested in watching it, but it’s also one of the big spoilers?? So it’s this constant balancing act of What Can I Let Slip
I think in a radio interview when he mentioned the song (before it was called oil on water) he said it was about "a friend who writes a comedy sex blog" so Id put my money on the former. I have my ideas about who the author may have been lol
Ooooh please share your speculations
Ok so Oil On Water is one of my faves from the album. I love that it's a bit stripped back and lets Dan's vocals really shine through--especially in contrast to songs where the production is more aggressive--and it makes that gorgeous horn solo stand out even more beautifully. I absolutely love the imagery of the lyrics, and as someone who read the blog it allows me to picture her writing it so perfectly and it makes me smile and chuckle to myself. (1/2) (or (1/1) if you're Dan)
(2/2) I also wanted to comment on the "judgey" comment as that's what prompted me to write in with one of my faves. I don't think it's judgey at all. He says "laughing /with/ her" not "at her", and having read it, she definitely writes with the intention for others to find it amusing (and it is, it's quite a delight) Dan did say it was based on a comedy sex blog after all. I love the song. It's so soothing and serene in its way. Knowing b/g info on it probably changes the experience a lot tho
I always wonder whether Dan had a friend that has a blog like that or had a friend that was victim to its writing. Either way it's not something you'd usually write a song about and I love it for being so unconventional
I think it's about friendship personally, though I do like that it sounds like a love song. I just think that because of interviews during the Bad Blood era when Dan said quite a few times that he doesn't write love songs because he has nothing new to say on the subject, but who knows if that's still true for the Wild World writing process
Yeah I feel that. Well, he did explain that the wild world he’s talking about also includes some amazing people, and I think The Anchor touches on that. Argh, it’s got such great lyrics. I can just imagine sleepless nights when he’s exhausted, but wired, and he’s just thinking about a special someone that keeps him grounded when he’s traveling so much
Final Hour is on the Target edition of the album but you can listen to it on Youtube
yeah that’s what imma do
madsstille replied to your photoset “let’s try our very best to fake it.”
i share your opinion in the tags tbh
i’m glad i’m not alone in that. i mean, i’m not dismissing it at all. it’s done well, as bastille things usually are and it fits with the original message of the song. i was just expecting something a lot bigger and a lot more exciting with a song they deemed as their favourite on the whole album. having said that though, if dan was happy with it (with how much of a perfectionist he is), and the rest of them were too, then i’m sure i’ll learn to appreciate it a lot more and it’ll grow on me.
