Saudi Arabia around Tabuk

I realized I haven't been noting the dates. So this is Thursday, January 18.

This was a road trip out around the area and back to Tabuk for the night. The area at the Red Sea Coast is where the Saudi Mega-project NEOM is being built. It's a whole new city, with a major portion being The Line, a linear self-contained city, with no cars. It has a $500 Billion investment from the state. There are already 3,600 people working on the construction. For us this meant that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere near the coast. So we ended up doing a lot more driving.

The desert in this area can be very scenic.

We stopped at a prominent outcropping that had been used as a bulletin board for centuries.

After driving a bit further we came to another rock with much older petroglyphs, of cattle this time. As a result the rock is called Golden Calf Rock, as part of the belief that Moses came through this area during his 40 years. If he was clear down here looking for Israel, he really needed some orientation training.

We then continued on to Madyan, a town that Moses lived in for 10 years according to the Bible and the Koran. There is a Nabateaen necropolis in the hills above the town.

Then as the sun was going down we headed through the mountains back to Tabuk.

He was not used to being alone, because before that he had been living a life of luxury and ease, in a position of leadership. Allah tells: فَخَرَجَ مِنْهَا خَايِفًا يَتَرَقَّبُ So he escaped from there, looking about in a state of fear. meaning, turning around and watching. قَالَ He said: رَبِّ نَجِّنِي مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ My Lord! Save me from the people who are wrongdoers! means, from Fir`awn and his chiefs. It was mentioned that Allah sent to him an angel riding a horse, who showed him the way.
