the twins
a late nite ramble abt créya and maëka... ive had a lot of thoughts about how they are perceived and how they view themselves in the world for a long while but havent ever really talked about it much. anyhow.
creya and maeka are of course the twin gods of creation, and naturally they are highly revered by mortals for this role. while they often act as a single unit, they aren’t completely homogenized. creya is the more introspective individual, and so she enjoys and specializes more of the creation of living things, whereas maeka, who is a bit more thick-skulled, is more partial to that of non-living matter. they arent restricted to those roles though, they both dip into the creation of the living and the nonliving.
a sidenote; desta’s creation of the high order of shapeshifters (sita & company) was a sort of slap in their face when the three of them reformed the world. this was desta’s only original creation, and it was life made from the nonliving... a race of shapeshifters who are essentially sentient masses of sand and rock. creya and maeka were unhappy she’d managed that while they only have the means to create living or nonliving things.
now of course as you likely know, creya and maeka are the younger sisters to the supreme desta roi’a. they were originally a single being that was equal to desta’s power, but were torn apart when desta grew jealous of their powers. this separation of proto-creya-maeka basically erased memories of their time as a singular being, as it was basically creya and maeka being born again. this worked out for desta, who could happily live with them believing it was natural order that she was their older, more superior sibling, without them knowing any better.
another side effect of the separation of their consciousnesses is that they are much younger gods and so are rather naive (hence they make the mistakes about humans multiple times). as i mentioned before however, creya is a bit more insightful and with her Bigger Braine (insert feels guy big brain meme). over the centuries she’s begun to become suspicious of desta as she’s found clues of the foul play of their birth... though she hasn’t acted much on her suspicions, it was certainly on her mind when she and maeka chained desta down after she was seriously weakened by the massacre of desta’s shapeshifters.
