a couple maelzuri headcanons

they'll frequently snatch shiny objects that they find around caves, similar to the behavior of crows.

they have night vision due to living in the ocean and ocean caves

Crystal caverns leads out into the ocean, which is how the maelzuri residing there got there

their fins/spines glow

Due to living in ocean trenches, the darker reaches of underwater caves, blue holes, and the like, halloween maelzuri are completely blind, hence why their eyes are blank white

Finned maelzuri are smaller than most and lack night vision, this is thanks to the fact they live in shallow coral reefs.
