I don’t think Theon will die, his story is much more meaningful if he lives. I think Theon (as well as Aeron, in a sense) is meant to be the embodiment of “what is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger”. So much of Theon’s arc in ADWD is about caring enough about his survival in order to fight for it. To save Jeyne, he has to want to save himself. This culminates in him risking his life to save both of them. I also highly reject the idea of him sacrificing himself for someone (particularly one of the Starks), because if GRRM wanted to have Theon give his life to save someone else, he could’ve just done that with Jeyne. Theon has already risked his life to save someone, and it’s more meaningful because it wasn’t a Stark, it wasn’t someone who he thinks of being “indebted to”. I don’t know where GRRM will take Theon’s story next, but I don’t think it’s meant to end in self-sacrifice.

#also. putting this in the tags because it’s a different topic #but i think theon still has his shmeat #i think that there’s more evidence for him still having it than him not having it #also *really* annoys me when people’s ‘evidence’ for him being shmeatless is the ‘no longer a man’ stuff #the ‘i’m not a man’ stuff is about him being treated like a creature. like an animal.#he didn’t just have his identity taken. he had his humanity ripped from him as well #theon stops the ‘i’m not a man’ thoughts when he starts to regain his humanity #it’s not a reference to his shmeat. it’s a reference to how ramsay (and everyone else) treated him like a dog #and i do think that grrm is intentionally leaving it somewhat open-ended #so he could go either way with it #if theon is revealed to have his shmeat it wouldn’t change anything. and vice versa #but as long as it’s still unconfirmed. i think he still has it #ask #maesterleia

☕ depiction of Essos in the show vs the books

I only saw Season 1 of the show but while I think the depiction of Essos in the books is already pretty racist and orientalist, the show obviously cranked that up to 11, especially in regards to the Dothraki.

The show did not have to do this and has even less of an excuse, being written in the 2010s. They absolutely could have tried to develop characters like Drogo, Irri, Jhiqui, etc and instead chose to double down on the racism and exoticism.

Tyrion's ADWD chapters are fantastic actually people are just weak

semi-agree, i do really like them and i think a lot of the criticisms of them are in bad faith and uninteresting (whenever a redditor mentions penny i die a little inside). i especially love the DIRECTION thise chapters go in. but i also think they are like, a little bloated lol
