thinking about how martin’s domain is about the fear of no one caring about your suffering. and im remembering how when martin got trapped by jane prentiss he didn’t know she had covered up his disappearance. as far as he was aware he vanished for 2 weeks and no one knew or cared while he went through the most harrowing and terrifying experience of his life. 

i bet jon immediately assuring martin that he had called and texted him and showing him that jane had been texting back, and then offering to have him stay in the archive and rushing to get elias to increase security (lol whoops) really meant a lot more to martin than he said. 

he really just came in there expecting jon to not have noticed or cared that he was missing, and fully prepared to be sent back to his flat afterwards, and probably bracing himself to be blamed and disbelieved too
