Couchsurfing in Deva
We had an incredible time in Deva...
It was our first time participating in Couchsurfing - an online community of traveller's who open their doors to people on the move and offer them a place to stay as well as a local experience while they're in town. We stayed with a kind, lovely couple who made us feel so welcome in their beautiful village home.
Complete with a small kitten, adorable dog, fresh veggies from their garden and a grandma living in the house next door, we felt so comfortable that it was difficult to leave! Ioan took us out with a friend of his for a mountain bike ride through the stunning coutry side - Romania's land is breathtaking. There are rolling hills, lush green forests and serene lakes. We paused throughout our ride for refreshments and met up with a group of friends for a dip in the lake and a little sun bathing. {we took some snaps, but they were all on film...haha}
It was so refreshing to be a part of a community for a few days - Ioan, Iwana and their friends were so welcoming - we had many great conversations and left feeling as though we had some strong friendships.
What a perfect first experience it was - and Deva, what a inviting place!
Also - I have to mention - if you are in town, you simply MUST check out the handmade artist collective Magazine. Iwana and her friends contribute to and run the place, it's a perfect spot to pick up creative, memorable, one of a kind items - from kitschy necklaces to trendy clothing, to homemade soaps. This store won't disappoint!
