talk about dorian and his fighting style!!
oh boy, i think about this a lot. a lot.
to be short about it : dorian has a very FLASHY fighting style. this is evidenced in his dialogue with solas, if you drag the both of them around. he’s very prone to showing off, to the surprise of absolutely no one.
beyond that, however, it should be noted that ( my, and many others, because it’s effectively canon ) dorian is a specialized PYROMANCER / NECROMANCER hybrid. i’ll write out a post of his ridiculous moveset another time, but around him the air burns hot in battle. ridiculously so. you may also hear a spirit or two screaming every now and then —— uh, don’t pay too much attention to that. regardless, it’s also noted in game that he uses a nullification enchantment to remove ambient magic to make things BURN HOTTER.
all this is to say : dorian multitasks, quite a bit. he has a mastery of his mana and isn’t afraid to show that off, and isn’t afraid to utilize that to its fullest potential in battle. this also means that he MOVES. a lot. almost constantly. dorian is a dynamic person in general, often moving / pacing / never standing still, but in battle you will never find him standing still. his movements are almost dancer like, in some ways, in that they are graceful and fluid. however, they are also generally HARSH and AGGRESSIVE at the tail end, punctuated with vibrant flares of gestures and magic and sheer movement.
it’s worth it to note that dorian isn’t particularly nimble for all that he’s constantly moving. he’s not very FAST. he covers quite a bit of ground, generally speaking, and he has great reflexes, but in a race he’ll almost always lose. he’s more about endurance than speed ( in modern verse he was probably a long distance runner in high school but that’s not really related —— ) and if he’s cornered too quickly by a rogue, he’s definitely in trouble. his movements are fairly broad, not refined, because he’s not trained to be a dancer. he’s trained to be a MAGE, and a fearsome one at that.
so in general : dorian honestly kind of just has fun with his fighting style, and he’s incredibly fun to watch. maybe not the best technical caster in the world, because he didn’t learn magic in a technical manner —— HE WAS A PRODIGY and developed his own style as he grew up. because he’s stubborn like that.
