I'm not saying you are wrong about the bibliomancy being heresy when it is taught as doctrine, but how could that become so common if it was, because it was also something I've heard of a lot when I was younger.
It’s a misrepresentation of using scripture as a form of prayer. If you wanted to use the Bible to enlighten you, it should be more like.
Person: hey God, I need some help figuring stuff out. I’m going to utilize Lectio Divina to hear your words and enlighten me on what you want me to do.
A lot of people need a tutorial on prayer (me included). But it’s just easier to say “open the book and see what God says”
