Honestly, I feel like the lucky one to have so many lovely people reading my fic and taking the time to comment and send me asks about them! It really does mean so much (and is extremely motivating to write, haha). I’m always super happy to hear that people love Cross Your Fingers in particular, because I feel like it’s so challenged me as a writer. I’m actually hoping to get the last two parts up this weekend, so it’ll be wild to be saying goodbye to it. It’s been such a journey, and I’m so grateful for everyone who’s come on it with me. <3

do you think it means something that the paint ball is yellow?

I thought about this and so struggled to come up with an answer! I punted it to @pynkhues​, who suggested it may just be an artistic decision based on boldness of the color showing up on the black car? 

It is the most visibile color on the color spectrum, and one website does say that “Bright yellow is an attention-getting color, and when used in combination with black, is creates one of the easiest color combinations to read and see from long distances. This is why school buses, taxi cabs, and traffic signs are painted yellow and black.”

I do think yellow has shown up a bit this season—Lucy’s bird, her dress during her death—and it’s interesting because this year they changed the Good Girls logo from pink to yellow, too. 

Usually yellow signifies happiness, warmth, joy, so it seemed like a strange switch? But I just looked it  up and there’s also some common negative associations:

Yellow means caution

It’s a symbol of cowardice (“yellow-bellied”) 

It also signifies egoism (which I’d personally link to Dean’s obsession with the ‘vette as well as Rio’s destruction of it)

It signifies sensationalism/excess (“yellow journalism”)

It is supposedly perceived negatively by men as being “childish” and is avoided in marketing products to prestigious/wealthy men

It’s described as “spontaneous” and “unstable”

But what was most interesting was this: 

Yellow has strong associations with betrayal and deceit. 

Now this is from Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt, but I thought this was pretty interesting:

In the early Christian church, yellow was the color associated with the Pope and the golden keys of the Kingdom, but it was also associated with Judas Iscariot and used to mark heretics.

Of course “keys of the Kingdom” jumped out at me, and even though I think it’d be an absolute stretch to make a Christian parallel between Rio’s “keys to the kingdom” and the Pope’s, haha, I do think it’s interesting that the color is also associated with Judas, whose name is basically synonymous with betrayal.

I’m not particularly sure that the color change of the logo and its recurring appearance holds that much weight, but I do think it’s interesting in that I think this season really is about exploring the ramifications of the ways that Beth and Rio have both betrayed each other—but Beth’s in particular with the shooting—as well as the ways that Beth is continuing to betray Rio while simultaneously ‘trying to earn his trust.’

Also, I do think Beth should be a lot more cautious as her hitman plan has essentially been an entire disaster and it hasn’t even failed yet. Additionally, I think Rio would say that hiring a hitman is a cowardly move because of his “if you want to be the king, you’ve got to kill the king, darling” speech. 

I’ve always been of the mind that the show is asking us to both condemn Beth and understand why she does make the decisions she does, so I think the possibility of it’s signifying betrayal is really interesting, even if it’s unintentional?

i just saw your reblog of The Kiss and omg i am high and fixating on his scrunched forehead it’s like he’s getting mad at her for doing it her own way even here and omg i want/need more :(((((

dude i am also high and mesmerized by that scene rn and the scrunched forehead is always one of the biggest things that just fucking WRECKS me! i mean!!! the intensity!!! the focus!!! 

i currently have an ask in my inbox asking me to break down my fave parts of the kiss like i did with the bathroom break and honestly i think you can expect like 250 words on that forehead scrunch ALONE

How I feel about this character

PROTECT HER AT ALL COSTS! She is a weird bean that tries her best but is also always staunchly herself and I love her for it.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Booth and only Booth. I hated that one guy she dated—Booth’s coworker whose name I forget—who wanted her to drop everything and sail around the world with him. Ugh. He was the worst. No thanks!

Like remember when Booth brought a Christmas tree and decorated it with Parker outside of her father’s visitation prison trailer to make the holiday feel more festive? Gosh, he was the best. They were opposites but they really, really looked out for each other. 

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Angela is so great, but my softest soft spot will always be for the relationship between Brennan and Zack. They were two weird beans and she mentored him and he got her, and she was so hurt by him and for him when everything went down with the Gormogon. Just like fuckin’ wreck me. I love that she struggled a lot to find someone she trusted to replace him, and that then she ended up with this huge expansive family of people that loved her. 

My unpopular opinion about this character

Um I thought her giving birth in a barn with all the Jesus-y parallels and then naming her daughter Christine was very cheesy. 

Also I don’t like that they named their son Hank.

I get that they were both names of people that mattered a lot to Booth and Brennan, but like... it’s a TV show pet peeve of mine that babies can apparently never have their own original names. 

I never finished the show but the gifs I see make me think I won’t particularly l like what happened to her.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Ummmm I wish her and Booth hadn’t been thrust together because of a pregnancy storyline—particularly one that happened without us, like, seeing a kiss and them sleeping together? I felt cheated, even though they were HEA after that!
