Story - Summarized
Susan loves designing magical dresses on her live broadcast, but one day a troll leaves her horrible comments. Other viewers come to her aid and shoo away the hater. Susan feels bad, but more about the other person not believing in magic.
After she finishes her broadcast, she gets her brother, William, to help her find out who was the troll and how to make him feel better. They find out he used to be a painter, and even did his own videos, but one day, he gave up. All that’s left of his work is a half-finished painting of a magic girl.
The twins get the idea to finish the design for him and then give it to him as a gift for Starsnow. William dresses as Papa Winter, Susan as the Snow Elf, and they head to one of the neighbors’ houses. The man is surprised to see the children and shuts the door in their faces.
Susan’s cries draw the man back. He awkwardly tries to be polite and welcoming, but before he can say much, Susan and William cast their magic to fill his design with color and present it to him. They leave right after.
A few days later, they get a message from the man apologizing for how rude he was. He wants to paint again, and he wants to do better. He thanks Susan for the magic, and the twins are proud their magic plan worked.
Connections
-While we know that Light Elves and Water Elves exist in Miraland, it’s unknown if there are other elves, so it’s possible that Snow Elves exist here, too.
-Susan mentions a realm of magicians other than this world. She and Peppermint are close friends, and Peppermint often describes the world in terms of dimensions and traveling between them.
-We first meet Susan in Chapter 3 when she thinks Loen is Major Snowhawk. He helps her to believe still in magic as they escape from the exploding train.
Fun Facts
-Starsnow is based after the secular version of Christmas.
-Chapter 2 mentions “muggle,” which is a term from the Harry Potter series meaning “someone not born into magic.”
-Will doesn’t seem to believe in magic, yet he loves alchemy. Alchemy is a type of magic.
