The thing about Love spells...
If you were to ask most any witch, pagan, or practitioner how they felt about love spells or love potions, or how to cast one or have it cast for you, the person in question would likely have one of the following responses; “ick”, “Oh honey no”, “Absolutely not”, and possibly a redirect to self love spells. However, with the uptik in asks about them, I thought It might be best to give a slightly more in depth explanation as to the consensus against them. Love spells whether romantic or platonic are problematic for a number of reasons. The first is lack of consent on the part of the other party. Directly trying to influence, hamper, or straight up change their perception or feelings about you is shady. And there’s not a way to gain that consent in any conceivable or honest way, which makes it Manipulation.
Using magic to push another person’s feelings to be what you desire them to be shows a lack of respect for them as a person. You are putting your own desires before theirs, which a solid relationship does not make. Healthy relationships (Whether casual, long lasting, Monogomous or Polyamorous,) come from clear communication, healthy respect for the parties involved (Yourself included.) and working together. Love spells tend to be counterintuitive to this--in part ,because you’re trying to push your wants (For them to have certain feelings) on them, and in part because they may or may not have the respect for you that will make a relationship work. The second reason is how Love spells place the caster in danger of toxic relationships. The two people could be a terrible match. They could be subtly hurting the other person through no fault of their own (One likes to be home at night snuggled in, the other wants to be out on the town, one is super huggy and affectionate, the other is not super into that, ect.) Things that long term will cause pain. As Fae puts it “Love is Volatile. so any magic that touches love will become volatile as well. That's not to say love is never a stable thing for someone. I've been in a stable committed relationship for years now, and we do have a stable love. But when love is New, or Created it's far from stable. And love spells can only deal with unstable love that wasn't built on a foundation, because they are Creating or finding New love. (It’s) Unstable from being forced too early.” This means taking a relationship that should be built up and worked on by two (Or more) able and willing people and boiling it down to a spell that can not last in any healthy capacity. Love and relationships are built off of Trust, give and take, mutual understanding, and a lot of work. Another point brought up by others is that even if you’re sending an open ended love spell you’re in the same situation. Some witches recommend spells to invite love into your life. This seems less concerning because you’re not targeting anyone in particular, right? It still has the undo influence of your will being imposed on others without their knowledge or consent. This also draws people into your life whom you may not be ready for, or who may not be ready for you. There’s a little more dissent on this point among the community, (Such as the universe potentially canceling it out depending on the spell’s intent) but I am of the opinion that if you are looking for love mundane is the best way to go. There are so many tools available to those looking for love, and meeting new people. Meetups for like minded people or hobbies, Dating sites and dating apps, events meant for people looking for romantic or platonic connections. It can be a daunting journey, but the results of taking the mundane and building from there are stunning. I’ll close with some advice--instead of working on magic to make others see you as desirable, work on seeing yourself as desirable. This can be mundane, like self care, learning a new skill, or working on your own confidence, or it can be magical, such as spells of self love, self reflection on your positive qualities, or magically boosting yourself. Find people who see you as the worthwhile and wonderful person you are. Wow okay. So. I finally figured out why everyone's upset about War of the Spark: Forsaken
And wow. Yeah it's bad. Like really bad. Like wow they should scrap it and start over bad.
Good thing it's not canon if we dont believe in it hard enough.
Don't Take All Tumblr Info As Truth
Hey, Witchblr. I just wanted to post a quick reminder: it's okay to disagree with stuff you see on tumblr. It's shocking how often I see stuff on my dashboard with people attacking each other over differences of opinion (such as the validity spirit companion vendors, or cursing vs not cursing), or questionable statements that are presented as absolute truth. It's okay to form your own opinion. In fact, that's best. Use tumblr as a starting place, then conduct your own research from a variety of sources-- especially sources that may disagree with each other. Armed with information, you'll be able to draw your own conclusions and shape your own understanding. At that point, the knowledge belongs to YOU and will be much more useful. You don't have to convince others to think like you either; two truths can be different yet equally valuable.
Calling it now
The promo trailer for the Return to Return to Ravnica trailer is gonna be narrated by Jace and he’s gonna say, “you’re on my world now.”
Throwing my hat into the Gorgon Discourse
Okay so if you've been in the Magic Fandom on tumblr this week, you know we're on some Gorgon reproduction bs. Specifically how gorgons reproduce since we've only seen female gorgons. Here's my thought on it: Gorgons, like certain species of snakes and reptiles can reproduce asexually, effectively creating a genetic clone. This would also explain why they're seemingly all female. So that's it. They reproduce through parthenogenesis.
