Daring, Dazzling, Dubai pt. 2
So let's see where did I leave off on our activities on our trip to Dubai. We started Wednesday morning off bright and early at 6a.m. with a WOD (workout of the day) at Crossfit Lifespark. Here are some shots of us in the box. What were we thinking? It was even goat month, meaning the WODs included exercises that might be your weakness!
Yes that's Campbell in the background waiting patiently for his fun to begin later that day. Our kids actually do like going to Crossfit with us.
For some kid fun later that day we told Mara and Campbell we could either do the sledding in Ski Dubai in Emirates mall or go bowling in the Magic Planet section of the mall. They chose bowling.
Verdict, super fun however I don't play much better than a 6 year old!
Something we all need right! Gold in a vending machine. Seriously, they are in the Emirates mall. I think Campbell wants some.
We hit the Shake Shack again! It was vacation after all. Wow, Campbell is quite charming. Notice he has two different ice creams in the pictures below. The woman standing at the entrance kept talking to both of our kids. After Campbell charmed her, she ended up bring him some more ice cream for free unbeknownst to Luke or myself. They both seemed to be a big hit in Dubai. Many strangers, mostly females, talked and also touched them in some way, like they were magnetic almost. It was comical. Have they not seen non Arabic kids before? It felt like it with as much attention as they received. I think really that everyone is just super friendly because after all, tourism is THE business there.
Then it was off to a very fun toy store. Look, giant Connect 4! Almost as fun as the mini one Grandma gave the kids. They play it all the time!
Campbell jumping on a trampoline.
Mara trying out some boingy stilts, well that's what I'm calling them anyway. No idea of what they are really called.
Lastly we wrapped up the day with a grocery store visit. Look at this guy preparing our fresh pineapple. He peeled and cored it, offered you a bite to make sure it was to your liking, and then off you go with fresh pineapple in hand. He also would cut you a section of watermelon if you didn't want the whole thing.
It seems like everything was in English and Arabic in Dubai. It was quite nice to understand all the signs. Well, sort of, anyway. I don't know what they mean by this last thing on the sign here.
And here we thought gluten was bad!
Get back in that house where you belong lady and starch my headpiece! Well that's the caption I'm adding.
To keep the robe white like a bride and the burka black as night so you can't find my woman. Again my caption.
I know I shouldn't joke about this culture however as a woman it's appalling how women are treated. They should stay home as much as possible, having multiple wives is acceptable and they have to cover everything except their eyes. Thank-you France for respecting women and banning the burka as of April this year. Dubai is western and wonderful in many ways but this is not one. Still, I can appreciate the women wearing a burka making such fantastic effort on their beautiful eyelashes, wearing amazing shoes and carrying the best handbags money can buy.
I still have a few more days to blog about. I guess we packed a lot in to our week of vacation.
