I think I just had a revelation about why genies are Like That^TM
Okay, so first I was just thinking about how in a lot of fantasy and supernatural stories, theres always words spoken to invoke magic. Usually this language is Latin. Whether it's exorsizing a demon or Harry Potter summoning light with his wand. And I was kinda thinking that it was dumb for latin to always be used as a "magic language". Because, while it is now a "dead language" and not commonly spoken in an everyday conversation, it was very likely spoken by people before in very conversational ways. Could you imagine if latin really had all those supernatural qualities??? You'd have to be so careful what you say. Imagine someone complaining about their neighbor and comparing them to an old goat. And whoops the neighbor just got transformed into a goat. So maybe there is a "magic language" (but not latin or any other language written or used today or in the past). And this language was only used by magical/supernatural beings. But these beings wouldnt speak much. Or if they did, and they didn't want to accidentally cast a spell or curse, they would adopt a language of Man. But that's why so many magical creatures don't speak, or when they do, the people can actually understand them. But could you imagine if your primary language had magic connected to every word? You'd have to be so CAREFUL about what you say and how you say it. Which brings me back to my original point. Genies. In a lot of stories about jins/genies, you get three wishes. You can wish for almost anything (but not quite, no killing, no making someone fall in love, no raising anyone from the dead, and no wishing for more wishes). But in a lot of the stories, you have to be very careful what you wish for. A person might wish to be rich for the rest of their life, and they are given a lot of money before dying two minutes later. Or they wish the finest wine in the country/kingdom, and then a couple days later the authorities find the bottles and arrest the person for stealing wine from the King. Basically just a whole lot of, be careful (and specific) what you wish for scenarios. But what if the genie/jin isn't actually the one making it happen like that. What if, As soon as a person says "I wish-" the genie grants them the ability to speak the Language of Magic. The genie is not the one fulfilling the wish and making it so that the person doesn't get what they actually wanted with out being super specific. The one wishing just doesn't know how to speak in the magic language. They just say what they want. They aren't specific and make sure they use the correct words to get what they want. If someone says "I wish I had a PB&J" , they're not going to get a nice peanutbutter and jelly sandwich. They're going to get a peice of paper that has the letters P B and J on it. Or if they do manage to get a sandwich, who knows what's in it. It might be whole peanuts, butter, and jello. Anyway. My point is, what if genies actually dotn have any control about how a wish gets fulfilled because all they are able to do is give the rules and grant the person the ability to speak magic.
