Giovanni Zatarra:

It's time to talk about Giovanni Freaking Zatara.

Actual look: What is there to say, for a stage magician it's hard to go wrong with a tux and top hat. The tall hat and long tails suit really complement Giovanni's slender build. The yellow vest and red tie/hat band add a whimsical flare and the primary colors link the costume to superhero’s visually. If Giovanni wanted to modernize I’d say to ditch the hat, go for a black and white color scheme and maybe shave the stash. That being said nothing about Giovanni screams “modernize” so I would say he’s right on target 5 of 5

In-universe: This costume is a prime example of how to tell a story through clothes. 1: Zatara and Zatanna wear nearly identical costumes. This shows us visually that they are extremely close, that Zatanna looks up to her dad and that Zatarra may be holding onto Zatanna a bit too tightly. Later in the show we see Zatanna’s costume has changed as she has grown, she is still following her father but she has grown into her own. 2. Giovanni is of an older time. Zatarra harkens back to a time of pulp heroes, before the superhero was the norm. In the show it shows that he seems a little older than the rest of the League. Zatarra stands appart in a team full that has a Martian 2 Hawk people and Batman, props Giovanni 3. It makes sense, Zatara is a magical, he doesn't really need body armor or a mask. 5 of 5

Overthinking things:  I worry about Giovanni’s finances. Our guy is wearing some really nice stuff into heavy combat. As someone who wears formal attire in some non formal situations, that stuff can get tattered. How many hats does he go through? This stuff can get costly. It definitely looks tailored and that's extra cost. I’m just worried about you Giovanni. 2 of 5

Sheer Glee: This guy, this freaking guy sees a Starro or something and thinks “Time to put on a tux white gloves and a top hat” Just the sheer audacity and commitment required to rock this look is an inspiration. I love you Giovanni, your presence is dearly missed. 5 of 5.
