happy SW day! here's a prompt for may the 4th, if you're so inspired: post-tlj, kylo/ben & rey meet unexpectedly on another planet during some sort of celebratory occasion (naboo? canto bight? up to you!)
Happy Star Wars day, my friend! Thank you so much for this fantastic prompt and I hope you like this. I’m also setting it post-TROS, I hope you don’t mind!
The stars were shining bright and the moon was already high in the sky when they lit off the fireworks.
All around her, people laughed and danced and clapped each other on the back. Drinks were spilled, prompting even more laughter and back clapping and promises to buy another round.
Rey breathed deeply, taking it all in, and smiled at how far she had come from her childhood. Cantonica was on the other side of the galaxy from Jakku, and Canto Bight the polar opposite of Niima Outpost. Cosmopolitan, wealthy, luxurious and fun, even Rey’s wildest day dreams hadn’t created a place like this.
The war was over, and people were happy and celebrating, yet there was still a deep sadness and loneliness weighing on Rey’s heart.
If she had reached out with the Force, she would have felt that presence not far from her, watching the crowds with the same loneliness and inability to blend in. They were both surrounded by people, able to feel and feed off of their jubilant emotions, yet they were alone, unaccompanied, cloaked shadows in the night.
Rey headed off toward a grassy field leading to a cliff overlooking the beach, where the fathiers that Finn and Rose had freed were set to roam, and the former Supreme Leader followed her.
No one had seen him since the final battle, since Emperor Palpatine was defeated once and for all. He said his goodbyes to Rey and his mother, and disappeared. Rey knew he had earned a respite, and wanted to atone more fully for his mistakes, but she still felt the emptiness where their bond had been as a physical ache.
She breathed deeply, letting the wind swirl her cloak and wrappings around her, looked up at the stars, and reached out with the Force.
The bond flared to life as Ben Solo approached her.
“Rey,” he said, and she opened her eyes, wide in the darkness. The moonlight made her look like an apparition in the darkness, as if she were glowing with holy light.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, taking a step closer to him.
He reached out his hand to her, and she took it, moving another step closer to him.
He pulled her into an embrace, wrapping his arms around her and resting his head on hers.
“I missed you,” he admitted, looking sheepish.
She laughed, and pulled his face down to hers.
“I missed you too,” she whispered into his ear, and kissed him.
