Mahereline IV -- Subterranean Races
"Of the Cave Races who live beneath the ground, little can be said with certainty, but what research exists that is credible points to a political landscape not entirely dissimilar to our own. There are three chief subterranean races, the Drow, The Stokites, and The Iowight." "The Drow of course are one of the two remaining descendants of the extinct forest elves. Drow live chiefly in upper caves, and are thus the race most likely to be found on the surface (indeed, they sometimes leave their dwellings at night). Drow skin tones range from dark grey to black, and their hair is of similar color. Reports from the Drow themselves indicate that the largest Drow nation--Kiendelen--consists of a number of sprawling cave networks, and is ruled by a hereditary empress, not dissimilar to the surface empire of Kerkent. While it may unnerve the average citizen to think that thousands of Drow work beneath their feet, one must remember that interactions with the Drow are few, and have largely been peaceful over the centuries."
"The Stokites and Iowight are even more mysterious. The former are lumbering, slow-moving men of rock. They roughly resemble oversized Dwarves in composition, and while one may be tempted to write them off as simple beasts, it is known that they have small political structures and even a handful of states. Stokite contact with the surface world is minimal though more frequent than Iowight contact. The Stokites sometimes trade with the Undwregar, the Cave Dwarves." "The Iowight are by far the least documented of any of these races. Ill-studied and much-feared, they are skinny, eyeless, grey-skinned humanoids with upwards of 20 fingers on each hand. They organize in groups, but it is difficult to say with certinty if these truly qualify as political organizations. Their intelligence is alien, and no extended two-way contact with the Iowight has ever been recorded."
